There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
I know that there is
nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime;
Here is what I have seen to be
good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward.
So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for
a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.
eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works.
Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the
impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things.
And you shall
rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance with you.
Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and
send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”

Instruct those who are rich in
this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.
moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—it is the
gift of God.
Furthermore, as for every man to whom
God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.
a man to whom God has
given riches and wealth and honor so that his soul lacks nothing of all that he desires; yet God has not empowered him to eat from them, for a foreigner enjoys them. This is vanity and a severe affliction.
If you do
not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name,” says the Lord of hosts, “then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.
And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’
