For the laughing of fools is like the crackling of thorns under a pot. And that is but a vain thing.

As a green thorn kindled with fire goeth out before your pots be made hot; even so, let a furious rage bring him to nought.

They came about me like bees, and are extinguished even as the fire among the thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

insomuch that I said unto laughter, "Thou art mad," and to mirth, "What doest thou?"

If a wise man go to law with a fool - whether he deal with him friendly or roughly - he getteth no rest.

Therefore thus sayeth the LORD God: Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall have hunger. Behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall suffer thirst. Behold, my servants shall be merry, but ye shall be confounded.

Your high feasts will I turn to sorrow, and your songs to mourning: I will bring sackcloth upon all backs, and baldness on every head. Yea, such a mourning will I send them, as is made upon an only begotten son, and they shall have a miserable end.

Woe be to you that are full: for ye shall hunger. Woe be to you that now laugh: for ye shall wail, and weep.

But Abraham said unto him, 'Son remember, that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy pleasure, and contrariwise, Lazarus pain. Now therefore is he comforted, and thou art punished.

and receive the reward of unrighteousness. They count it pleasure to live deliciously for a season. Spots they are, and filthiness, living at pleasure, and in deceitful ways feasting with you:

These are spots which of your kindness feast together, without fear, feeding themselves. Clouds they are without water, carried about of winds: and trees without fruit at gathering time, twice dead, and plucked up by the roots.
