2 and the king saith to Esther also on the second day, during the banquet of wine, 'What is thy petition, Esther, O queen? and it is given to thee; and what thy request? unto the half of the kingdom -- and it is done.'
2 And the king said to Esther on the second day also (a)as they drank their wine at the banquet, “(A)What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? (B)Even to half of the kingdom it shall be done.”
2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.
2 Once again, on the second day while drinking wine,(B) the king asked Esther, “Queen Esther, whatever you ask will be given to you. Whatever you seek, even to half the kingdom, will be done.”(C)
2 On the second day the king again told Esther as they drank wine, "What's your petition, Queen Esther? It will be given to you. What's your request? Up to half of the kingdom, and it will be done."
3 And Esther the queen answereth and saith, 'If I have found grace in thine eyes, O king, and if to the king it be good, let my life be given to me at my petition, and my people at my request;
3 Then Queen Esther replied, “(C)If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me as my petition, and my people as my request;
3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
3 Queen Esther answered, “If I have obtained your approval,(b) my king, and if the king is pleased,(D) spare my life—this is my request; and spare my people—this is my desire.(E)
3 Queen Esther answered: "If I've found favor with you, your majesty, and if it seems good to the king, let my life be given to me as my petition and my people as my request.
4 for we have been sold, I and my people, to cut off, to slay, and to destroy; and if for men-servants and for maid-servants we had been sold I had kept silent -- but the adversity is not equal to the loss of the king.'
4 for (D)we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, (E)to be killed and to be annihilated. Now if we had only been sold as slaves, men and women, I would have remained silent, for the (b)trouble would not be commensurate with the (c)annoyance to the king.”
4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage.
4 For my people and I have been sold out(F) to destruction, death, and extermination.(G) If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves,(H) I would have kept silent. Indeed, the trouble wouldn’t be worth burdening the king.”
4 Indeed, I and my people have been sold to be annihilated, killed, and destroyed. If we had just been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because the trouble wouldn't have been sufficient to bother the king."
5 And the king Ahasuerus saith, yea, he saith to Esther the queen, 'Who is he -- this one? and where is this one? -- he whose heart hath filled him to do so?'
5 Then King Ahasuerus (d)asked Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is he, (e)who would presume to do thus?”
5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?
5 King Ahasuerus spoke up and asked Queen Esther, “Who is this, and where is the one who would devise such a scheme?”(c)(I)
5 Then King Ahasuerus asked Queen Esther, "Who is this, and where is the person who would dare do this?"
6 And Esther saith, 'The man -- adversary and enemy -- is this wicked Haman;' and Haman hath been afraid at the presence of the king and of the queen.
6 Esther said, “(F)A foe and an enemy is this wicked Haman!” Then Haman became terrified before the king and queen.
6 And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
6 Esther answered, “The adversary and enemy(J) is this evil Haman.”Haman stood terrified(K) before the king and queen.
6 Esther replied, "An adversary and an enemy it's this wicked Haman!" So Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
7 And the king hath risen, in his fury, from the banquet of wine, unto the garden of the house, and Haman hath remained to seek for his life from Esther the queen, for he hath seen that evil hath been determined against him by the king.
7 The king arose (G)in his anger from (f)drinking wine and went into (H)the palace garden; but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm had been determined against him by the king.
7 And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
7 Angered(L) by this, the king arose from where they were drinking wine and went to the palace garden.(M) Haman remained to beg Queen Esther for his life because he realized the king was planning something terrible for him.(N)
7 The king got up from the banquet in anger and went out to the palace garden, while Haman stood there begging Queen Esther to spare his life, because he realized that the king intended to harm him.
8 And the king hath turned back out of the garden of the house unto the house of the banquet of wine, and Haman is falling on the couch on which Esther is, and the king saith, 'Also to subdue the queen with me in the house?' the word hath gone out from the mouth of the king, and the face of Haman they have covered.
8 Now when the king returned from the palace garden into the (g)place where they were drinking wine, Haman was falling on (I)the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen with me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
8 Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the house of wine drinking, Haman was falling on the couch(O) where Esther was reclining. The king exclaimed, “Would he actually violate the queen while I am in the palace?” As soon as the statement left the king’s mouth, Haman’s face was covered.(P)
8 When the king returned to the banquet hall from the palace garden, Haman was prostrate on the couch where Esther was. The king asked, "Will this man even assault the queen with me in the house?" The king had no sooner spoken than they covered Haman's face.
9 And Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, saith before the king, 'Also lo, the tree that Haman made for Mordecai, who spake good for the king, is standing in the house of Haman, in height fifty cubits;' and the king saith, 'Hang him upon it.'
9 Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the king said, “Behold indeed, (J)the gallows standing at Haman’s house fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai (K)who spoke good on behalf of the king!” And the king said, “Hang him on it.”
9 And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
9 Harbona, one of the royal eunuchs,(Q) said: “There is a gallows 75 feet(d) tall at Haman’s house that he made for Mordecai,(R) who gave the report that saved(e) the king.”(S)The king commanded, “Hang him on it.”
9 Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs attending the king, observed, "Look there! A pole is standing 50 cubits high at Haman's house that he prepared for Mordecai, whose report benefitted the king!"
10 And they hang Haman upon the tree that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the fury of the king hath lain down.
10 (L)So they hanged Haman on the (h)gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai, (M)and the king’s anger subsided.
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.
10 They hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai.(T) Then the king’s anger subsided.(U)
10 The king said, "Hang him on it." So they hanged Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai, and then the king's anger subsided.
