Those were the waters of

Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the Lord, and He proved Himself holy among them.

“Again at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.

Chiding

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

Tempted

Do not harden your hearts, as at

Meribah,

As in the day of

Massah in the wilderness,

Do not harden your hearts as

when they provoked Me,

As in the day of trial in the wilderness,

Is the lord

He said, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though

the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.”

Then My anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide My face from them, and they will be consumed, and many evils and troubles will come upon them; so that they will say in that day, ‘Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have come upon us?’

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Manasseh, “Today we know that the Lord is in our midst, because you have not committed this unfaithful act against the Lord; now you have delivered the sons of Israel from the hand of the Lord.”

Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,

For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe,
Her priests instruct for a price
And her prophets divine for money.
Yet they lean on the Lord saying,
“Is not the Lord in our midst?
Calamity will not come upon us.”

And the Word became flesh, and

dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet

like me from your brethren.’
