2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt from the house of slavery.
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
2 “I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
4 "You are not to craft for yourselves an idol or anything resembling what is in the skies above, or on earth beneath, or in the water sources under the earth.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
4 “You shall not make for yourself any idol, or any likeness (form, manifestation) of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth [as an object to worship].
5 You are not to bow down to them in worship or serve them, because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the guilt of parents on children, to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
5 (F)You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a (G)jealous God, (H)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
5 You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,(D) punishing the children for the fathers’ sin, to the third and fourth generations(E) of those who hate Me,
5 You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God [(a)demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,(A)
6 but showing gracious love to the thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
6 but showing graciousness and steadfast lovingkindness to thousands [of generations] of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 "You are not to misuse the name of the LORD your God, because the LORD will not leave unpunished the one who misuses his name.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You are not to do any work neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your livestock, nor any foreigner who lives among you
10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it (M)you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who (e)stays with you.
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath [a day of rest dedicated] to the Lord your God; on that day you shall not do any work, you or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock or the temporary resident (foreigner) who stays within your [city] gates.
11 because the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them in six days. Then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
11 For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and He rested (ceased) on the seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy [that is, set it apart for His purposes].
12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
12 “Honor (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged in the land the Lord your God gives you.
16 "You are not to give false testimony against your neighbor.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 "You are not to desire your neighbor's house, nor your neighbor's wife, his male or female servant, his ox, his donkey, nor anything else that pertains to your neighbor."
17 “(V)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; (W)you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
18 All the people experienced the thunder and lightning, the sound of the ram's horn, and the smoking mountain. And as the people experienced it, they trembled and stood at a distance.
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
18 Now all the people witnessed the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the smoking mountain; and as they looked, the people were afraid, and they trembled [and moved backward] and stood at a [safe] distance.
19 They told Moses, "You speak to us and we will listen, but don't let God speak with us, or we may die.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
19 Then they said to Moses, “You speak to us and we will listen, but do not let God speak to us or we will die.”
20 Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid, for God has come to test you, so that you may fear him in order that you don't sin."
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him [that is, a profound reverence for Him] will remain with you, so that you do not sin.”
21 Then the people stood at a distance, and Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
21 So the people stood at a [safe] distance, but Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.
22 The LORD told Moses, "This is what you are to say to the Israelis, "You have seen for yourselves that I spoke to you from heaven.
22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven.
23 You are not to make gods of silver alongside me, nor are you to make for yourselves gods of gold.
23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
23 You shall not make other gods [to worship] besides Me; gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make [these lifeless idols] for yourselves.
24 You are to make an altar of earth for me, and you are to sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep, and your cattle. Everywhere I cause my name to be remembered, I'll come to you and bless you.
24 You shall make (AG)an altar of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your (AH)burnt offerings and your (AI)peace offerings, (AJ)your sheep and your oxen; in every place (AK)where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
24 “You must make an earthen altar for Me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats, as well as your cattle. I will come to you and bless you in every place where I cause My name to be remembered.(W)
24 You shall make an altar of earth for Me, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause My Name to be recorded and remembered [through revelation of My divine nature] I will come to you and bless you.
25 If you make an altar of stone for me, you must not build it of cut stones, because if you strike it with your chisel, you will profane it.
25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
26 You are not to ascend to my altar on steps, so that your nakedness may not be exposed on it.'"
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
26 You must not go up to My altar on steps, so that your nakedness is not exposed on it.
