A Valley Of Dried Bones; A Renewed Nation Of Israel

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

1 The (A)hand of the Lord was upon me, and He (B)brought me out (a)by the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the (C)valley; and it was full of bones.

1 The hand of the Lord was on me,(A) and He brought me out by His Spirit(B) and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones.

1 The LORD laid his hand on me and brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD to the middle of a valley that was filled with bones.

1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones.

2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

2 He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry.

2 He led me all around them. There were a great many of them on the surface of the valley, and they were very dry.

2 He led me here and there throughout the valley, and I was amazed to see that the surface of the entire valley was covered with myriads of very dry bones!

2 He caused me to pass all around them, and behold, there were very many [human bones] in the open valley; and lo, they were very dry.

3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

3 He said to me, “Son of man, (D)can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord (b)God, (E)You know.”

3 Then He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”I replied, “Lord God, only You know.”(C)

3 The LORD asked me, "Son of Man, will these bones ever live?" "Lord GOD," I replied, "you know the answer to that!"

3 And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, You know.”(A)

4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

4 Again He said to me, “(F)Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, (G)hear the word of the Lord.’

4 He said to me, “Prophesy concerning these bones and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!

4 Then the LORD told me, "Prophesy to these bones. Tell them: "You dry bones, listen to the message from the LORD: "

4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.’(B)

5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause (c)(H)breath to enter you that you may come to life.

5 This is what the Lord God says to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you will live.(D)

5 This is what the Lord GOD says to you dry bones! "Pay attention! I'm bringing my Spirit into you right now, and you're going to live!

5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will make (a)breath enter you so that you may come to life.

6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

6 I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will (I)know that I am the Lord.’”

6 I will put tendons on you, make flesh grow on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you so that you come to life. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”(E)

6 I'm going to grow tendons on you, regenerate your flesh, cover you with skin, and make you breathe again so that you can come back to life and learn that I am the LORD.'"'"

6 I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin, and I will put breath in you so that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the Lord.’”

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

7 So I prophesied (J)as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a (d)noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

7 So I prophesied as I had been commanded. While I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.

7 So I prophesied, just as I had been ordered to do so. Immediately there was a noise and a rattling and then all of a sudden the bones came together by themselves! Each bone came together, all of them attached together!

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a [thundering] noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

8 And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.

8 As I looked, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

8 As I continued to watch, I saw tendons growing on the bones, and muscles growing and covering them, and then skin covered the flesh from above. But the bodies weren't breathing.

8 And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on the bones, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.

9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

9 Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and (K)breathe on these slain, that they (L)come to life.”’”

9 He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath,(a) prophesy, son of man. Say to it: This is what the Lord God says: Breath, come from the four winds and breathe into these slain so that they may live!”(F)

9 Then he ordered me, "Prophesy to the Spirit, Son of Man. Tell the Spirit, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Come from the four winds, you Spirit, and breathe into these people who have been killed, so they will live."'"

9 Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’”

10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the (M)breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an (N)exceedingly great army.

10 So I prophesied as He commanded me; the breath(b) entered them,(G) and they came to life and stood on their feet, a vast army.

10 So I prophesied as I had been ordered, breath entered them, and they began to live. They stood on their own feet as a vast, united army.

10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army.(C)

11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the (O)whole house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our (P)bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are (e)completely (Q)cut off.’

11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.(H) Look how they say, ‘Our bones are dried up,(I) and our hope has perished;(J) we are cut off.’(K)

11 "These bones represent the entire house of Israel," the LORD explained to me. "Look how they keep saying, "Our bones are dried up, and our future is lost. We've been completely eliminated!'

11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is lost. We are completely cut off.’

12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will open your graves and (R)cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.

12 Therefore, prophesy and say to them: This is what the Lord God says: I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them,(L) My people, and lead you into the land of Israel.

12 "Therefore prophesy to them, and tell them, "Watch me! I'm going to open your graves, lift you out of those graves, and bring my people back into the land of Israel.

12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will open your graves and make you come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you [back home] to the land of Israel.(D)

13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

13 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people.

13 You will know that I am Yahweh, My people, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.(M)

13 Then you'll learn that I am the LORD, when I've opened your graves and caused you to come up out of them, my people.

13 Then you will know [with confidence] that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and made you come up out of your graves, My people.

14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

14 I will (S)put My (f)Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.’”

14 I will put My Spirit in you,(N) and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I am Yahweh. I have spoken, and I will do it.”(O) This is the declaration of the Lord.

14 I'm going to place my Spirit in you all, and you will live. I'll place you all into your land, and you'll learn that I, the LORD, have been speaking and doing this,' declares the LORD.'"

14 I will put My (b)Spirit in you and you will come to life, and I will place you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and fulfilled it,” says the Lord.’”

The Reunification Of Israel

15 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

15 The word of the Lord came again to me saying,

15 The word of the Lord came to me:

15 A message came to me from the LORD, and this is what it was:

15 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

16 “And you, son of man, take for yourself (T)one stick and write on it, ‘For (U)Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For (V)Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’

16 “Son of man, take a single stick and write on it:(P) Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph—the stick of Ephraim—and all the house of Israel associated with him.(Q)

16 "Now as for you, Son of Man, grab a stick of wood for yourself and write on it these words: "FOR JUDAH AND THE ISRAELIS, HIS COMPANIONS' "Then grab another stick and write on it: "FOR JOSEPH, THE STICK OF EPHRAIM, AND ALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL, HIS COMPANIONS'

16 “And you, son of man, take a stick and write on it, ‘For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’

17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

17 Then (W)join them for yourself one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.

17 Then join them together into a single stick so that they become one in your hand.(R)

17 "Then join them together end-to-end so that they become a single baton in your hand.

17 Then join them together into one stick, so that they may become one in your hand.

18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

18 When the sons of your people speak to you saying, ‘Will you not declare to us (X)what you mean by these?’

18 When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by these things?’(S)

18 When the descendants of your people ask you, "Would you please explain to us what you mean by this?'

18 When your people say to you, ‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’

19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

19 say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will put them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.”’

19 tell them: This is what the Lord God says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and put them together with the stick of Judah. I will make them into a single stick so that they become one in My hand.

19 you are to tell them, "This is what the LORD says: "Watch me! I'm taking the baton that represents Joseph, which Ephraim is holding in his hand, along with his companions the tribes of Israel, and I'm going to join them with the baton that represents Judah. I'm making them a single baton, that is, a complete baton in my hand."

19 say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am going to take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join the stick of Judah with it and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand.”’

20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

20 The sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.

20 “When the sticks you have written on are in your hand and in full view of the people,(T)

20 "The batons on which you engrave your writing are to remain right in front of them in your hand.

20 The sticks on which you write shall be in your hand before their eyes.

21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

21 Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will (Y)take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;

21 tell them: This is what the Lord God says: I am going to take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone.(U) I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land.

21 Then tell them, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Watch me take the Israelis out of the nations where they've gone and return them from every direction. I'm going to bring them back into their own land.

21 Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am going to take the children of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will (c)gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;

22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

22 and I will make them (Z)one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and (AA)one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be divided into two kingdoms.

22 I will make them one nation in the land,(V) on the mountains of Israel, and one king will rule over all of them.(W) They will no longer be two nations and will no longer be divided into two kingdoms.

22 I'm going to make them a united people in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and I'll set a single king to rule over them. They'll never again be two separate people. They'll never again be divided into two kingdoms.

22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one (d)king will be king over all of them; and they will no longer be two nations, and will no longer be divided into two kingdoms.(E)

23 Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

23 They will (AB)no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but (AC)I will deliver them from all their (g)dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God.

23 They will not defile themselves anymore with their idols,(X) their detestable things, and all their transgressions.(Y) I will save them from all their apostasies by which(c) they sinned,(Z) and I will cleanse them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.(AA)

23 They will never again defile themselves with their idols, with other loathsome things, or with any of their sins. Instead, I will deliver them from all of the places where they have sinned, and then I'll cleanse them. They will be my people and I will be their God."'"

23 They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will save them from all their transgressions in which they have sinned, and I will cleanse them. So they will be My people, and I will be their God.

24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.

24 “My servant (AD)David will be king over them, and they will all have (AE)one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them.

24 My servant David will be king over them, and there will be one shepherd for all of them.(AB) They will follow My ordinances, and keep My statutes and obey them.(AC)

24 """My servant King David will be there for them, and one shepherd will be appointed for them. They will live according to my decrees, keep my regulations, and practice them.

24 (e)My servant David will be king over them, and they all will have one shepherd. They will also walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them.

25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

25 They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever; and (AF)David My servant will be their prince forever.

25 “They will live in the land that I gave to My servant Jacob,(AD) where your fathers lived. They will live in it forever with their children and grandchildren, and My servant David will be their prince forever.(AE)

25 They will live in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob and on which your ancestors lived. They will live in that land, along with their children and grandchildren, forever. David my servant will be their everlasting leader.

25 They will live in the land where your fathers lived, [the land] that I gave to My servant Jacob, and they will live there, they and their children and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David will be their leader forever.(F)

26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

26 I will make a (AG)covenant of peace with them; it will be an (AH)everlasting covenant with them. And I will (h)place them and (AI)multiply them, and will set My (AJ)sanctuary in their midst forever.

26 I will make a covenant of peace with them;(AF) it will be an everlasting covenant(AG) with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set My sanctuary among them forever.

26 I'll make a secure covenant with them, one that will last forever. I will establish them, make them increase in population, and will place my sanctuary in their midst forever.

26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them, and will put My sanctuary in their midst forever.

27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

27 My (AK)dwelling place also will be with them; and (AL)I will be their God, and they will be My people.

27 My dwelling place will be with them;(AH) I will be their God, and they will be My people.(AI)

27 I will pitch my tent among them and will be their God. They will be my people,

27 My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.

28 And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

28 And the nations will know that I am the Lord (AM)who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.”’”

28 When My sanctuary is among them forever, the nations will know that I, Yahweh, sanctify Israel.”(AJ)

28 and the nations will learn that I, the LORD, am the sanctifier of Israel when I place my sanctuary in their midst forever."'"

28 Then the nations will know [without any doubt] that I am the Lord who sets apart and sanctifies Israel [for holy use], when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.”’”
