A Vision Of The New Temple

1 In the twenty-fifth year after we had been taken away prisoners, in the first month of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the town was taken, on the very same day, the hand of the Lord was on me, and he took me there.

1 In the (A)twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the (B)city was (a)taken, on that same day the (C)hand of the Lord was upon me and He brought me there.

1 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.

1 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month in the fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been captured,(A) on that very day the Lord’s hand was on me,(B) and He brought me there.

1 At the beginning of year 25 of our captivity, on the tenth day of the fourteenth year after the destruction of Jerusalem on that very day the LORD grabbed me in his hand and took me there.

2 In the visions of God he took me into the land of Israel, and put me down on a very high mountain, on which there was, as it seemed, a building like a town opposite me.

2 In the (D)visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me on a very (E)high mountain, and on it (F)to the south there was a (G)structure like a city.

2 In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south.

2 In visions of God(C) He took me to the land of Israel and set me down on a very high mountain.(D) On its southern slope was a structure resembling a city.

2 God brought me in a series of visions to the land of Israel and placed me on top of a very high mountain, where to the south there was something that looked like the outline of a city.

3 He took me there, and I saw a man, looking like brass, with a linen cord in his hand and a measuring rod: and he was stationed in the doorway.

3 So He brought me there; and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of (H)bronze, with a (I)line of flax and a (J)measuring (b)rod in his hand; and he was standing in the gateway.

3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.

3 He brought me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze,(E) with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand.(F) He was standing by the gate.

3 That's where he took me. All of a sudden, there was a man whose appearance resembled glowing bronze! He had a measuring reed and line in his hand as he stood in the city gate.

4 And the man said to me, Son of man, see with your eyes and give hearing with your ears, and take to heart everything I am going to let you see; for in order that I might let you see them, you have come here: and give an account of all you see to the children of Israel.

4 The man said to me, “(K)Son of man, (L)see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and give attention to all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to show it to you. (M)Declare to the house of Israel all that you see.”

4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.

4 He spoke to me: “Son of man, look with your eyes, listen with your ears,(G) and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for you have been brought here so that I might show it to you. Report everything you see to the house of Israel.”(H)

4 This is what the man told me: "Son of Man, watch carefully, listen closely, and remember everything I'm going to be showing you, because you've been brought here to be shown what you're about to see. Be sure that you tell the house of Israel everything that you observe."

The Eastern Gate

5 And there was a wall on the outside of the house all round, and in the man's hand there was a measuring rod six cubits long by a cubit and a hand's measure: so he took the measure of the building from side to side, one rod; and from base to top, one rod.

5 And behold, there was a (N)wall on the outside of the (c)temple all around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six cubits, each of which was a cubit and a (d)handbreadth. So he measured the thickness of the (e)wall, one rod; and the height, one rod.

5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

5 Now there was a wall surrounding the outside of the temple.(I) The measuring rod in the man’s hand was six units of 21 inches;(a) each unit was the standard length plus three inches.(b) He measured the thickness of the wall structure; it was about 10 feet,(c) and its height was the same.(d)

5 All of a sudden, we were at the exterior wall that completely surrounded the Temple. The man whom I had observed held a measuring reed that was six cubits long as measured in cubits that were a cubit and a handbreadth long. As he measured the thickness of the wall, he measured out one reed. Its height was also one reed.

6 Then he came to the doorway looking to the east, and went up by its steps; and he took the measure of the doorstep, one rod wide.

6 Then he went to the gate which faced (O)east, went up its steps and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod (f)in width; and the other threshold was one rod (g)in width.

6 Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the stairs thereof, and measured the threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad; and the other threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad.

6 Then he came to the gate that faced east and climbed its steps.(J) He measured the threshold of the gate; it was 10 feet deep—the first threshold was 10 feet deep.

6 Then he went over to the gate that faced toward the east, ascended its steps, and measured its thresholds. One threshold measured one reed and the other one measured one reed.

7 And the watchmen's rooms were one rod long and one rod wide; and the space between the rooms was five cubits; the doorstep of the doorway, by the covered way of the doorway inside, was one rod.

7 And every little chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers were five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate within was one reed.

7 Each recess was about 10 feet(e) long and 10 feet(f) deep, and there was a space of 8¾ feet(g) between the recesses. The inner threshold of the gate on the temple side next to the gate’s portico was about 10 feet.(h)

7 Each guardhouse measured one reed long and one reed wide, and the distance between each guardhouse was five cubits. The threshold of the gate near the vestibule facing away from the Temple entrance measured one reed.

8 And he took the measure of the covered way of the doorway inside,

8 Then he measured the porch of the gate (i)facing inward, one rod.

8 He measured also the porch of the gate within, one reed.

8 Next he measured the portico of the gate;

8 Next, he measured the vestibule of the gate facing away from the Temple entrance at one reed.

9 Eight cubits; and its uprights, two cubits; the covered way of the doorway was inside.

9 Then measured he the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was inward.

9 it(i) was 14 feet,(j) and its pilasters were 3½ feet.(k) The portico of the gate was on the temple side.

9 He measured the vestibule of the gate inside at eight cubits and the doorjambs at two cubits. (The vestibule at the gate faced away from the Temple.)

10 And the rooms of the doorway on the east were three on this side and three on that; all three were of the same size; and the uprights on this side and on that were of the same size.

10 The guardrooms of the gate toward the east numbered three on each side; the three of them had the same measurement. The side pillars also had the same measurement on each side.

10 And the little chambers of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side; they three were of one measure: and the posts had one measure on this side and on that side.

10 There were three recesses on each side of the east gate, each with the same measurements, and the pilasters on either side also had the same measurements.

10 Gate guardhouses stood facing east, numbering three on each side, each of them of equal size to the door jamb; that is, having the same measurement on each side.

11 And he took the measure of the opening of the doorway, ten cubits wide; and the way down the doorway was thirteen cubits;

11 And he measured the width of the (k)gateway, ten cubits, and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.

13 And he took the measure of the doorway from the back of one room to the back of the other, twenty-five cubits across, from door to door.

13 He measured the gate from the roof of the one guardroom to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits from one door to the door opposite.

13 He measured then the gate from the roof of one little chamber to the roof of another: the breadth was five and twenty cubits, door against door.

13 Then he measured the gateway from the roof of one recess to the roof of the opposite one; the distance was 43¾ feet.(q) The openings of the recesses faced each other.

13 He measured the gate from the roof of the guardhouses to the roof of another at 25 cubits from doorway to opposite doorway.

14 And he took the measure of the covered way, twenty cubits; and opening from the covered way of the doorway was the open square round about.

14 He made the side pillars sixty cubits high; the gate extended round about to the side pillar of the (Q)courtyard.

14 He made also posts of threescore cubits, even unto the post of the court round about the gate.

14 Next, he measured the pilasters—105 feet.(r) The gate extended around to the pilaster of the court.(s)

14 Then he measured the open air porch at 60 cubits from the doorjamb of the courtyard that encompassed the gate.

15 And from before the opening of the doorway to before the inner covered way of the doorway was fifty cubits.

16 And the rooms and their uprights had sloping windows inside the doorway all round, and in the same way the covered way had windows all round on the inside: and on every upright there were palm-trees.

16 There were (m)(R)shuttered windows looking toward the guardrooms, and toward their side pillars within the gate all around, and likewise for the porches. And there were windows all around inside; and on each side pillar were (S)palm tree ornaments.

16 And there were narrow windows to the little chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches: and windows were round about inward: and upon each post were palm trees.

The Outer Courtyard

17 Then he took me into the outer square, and there were rooms and a stone floor made for the open square all round: there were thirty rooms on the stone floor.

17 Then he brought me into the (T)outer court, and behold, there were (U)chambers and a pavement made for the court all around; thirty chambers (n)faced the pavement.

17 Then brought he me into the outward court, and, lo, there were chambers, and a pavement made for the court round about: thirty chambers were upon the pavement.

18 And the stone floor was by the side of the doorways, and was as wide as the doorways were long, even the lower floor.

18 The pavement (that is, the lower pavement) was by the (o)side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates.

18 And the pavement by the side of the gates over against the length of the gates was the lower pavement.

18 which flanked the gates and corresponded to the length of the gates; this was the lower pavement.

18 The pavement to the side of the gates corresponded to the length of the gates.

19 Then he took the measure of the square across, from before the lower doorway inside to before the inner doorway outside, one hundred cubits. And he took me in the direction of the north,

19 Then he measured the width from the front of the (V)lower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner court, a (W)hundred cubits on the east and on the north.

40 Outside, as one approaches the entrance of the north gate, there were two tables on one side and two more tables on the other side of the gate’s portico.

40 and on the outer side, approaching the northern gateway, there were two tables, as well as two tables on the opposite side of the porch in front of the gate.

41 There were four tables on one side and four tables on the other, by the side of the doorway; eight tables, on which they put to death the beasts for the offerings.

41 Four (BP)tables were on each side (ad)next to the gate; or, eight tables on which they slaughter sacrifices.

41 Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices.

41 So there were four tables inside the gate and four outside, eight tables in all on which the slaughtering was to be done.

41 In that way, there were four tables on each side in front of the gate, for a total of eight tables for use in slaughtering the offerings.

42 And there were four tables for the burned offering, made of cut stone, one and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide and a cubit high, where the instruments were placed which were used for putting to death the burned offering and the beasts for the offerings.

42 For the burnt offering there were four (BQ)tables of (BR)hewn stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and one cubit high, on which they lay the instruments with which they slaughter the (BS)burnt offering and the sacrifice.

42 And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.

42 There were also four tables of cut stone for the burnt offering,(S) each 31½ inches(al) long, 31½ inches wide, and 21 inches(am) high. The utensils used to slaughter the burnt offerings and other sacrifices were placed on them.

42 There were four tables carved from stone for the burnt offering, each one and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one cubit high, on which the instruments are laid for slaughtering burnt offerings and sacrifices.

43 And they had edges all round as wide as a man's hand: and on the tables was the flesh of the offerings.

43 The double (ae)hooks, one handbreadth in length, were installed (af)in the house all around; and on the tables was the flesh of the offering.

43 And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.

43 There were three-inch(an) hooks(ao) fastened all around the inside of the room, and the flesh of the offering was to be laid on the tables.

43 Double hooks, a single handbreadth in length, were installed all around in this portion of the temple area.

Rooms For Priests And Other Worship Leaders

44 And he took me into the inner square, and there were two rooms in the inner square, one at the side of the north doorway, facing south; and one at the side of the south doorway, facing north.

44 From the outside to the (BT)inner gate were (ag)(BU)chambers for the (BV)singers in the inner court, one of which was at the (ah)side of the north gate, with (ai)its front toward the south, and one at the (aj)side of the (ak)south gate facing toward the north.

44 And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.

44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, there were chambers for the singers:(ap)(T) one(aq) beside the north gate, facing south, and another beside the south(ar) gate, facing north.

44 From outside leading into the inner gate there were chambers for the choir. One was beside the north gate facing the south, and another was at the south gate facing the north.

45 And he said to me, This room, facing south, is for the priests who have the care of the house.

45 He said to me, “This is the (BW)chamber which faces toward the south, intended for the priests who (BX)keep charge of the (al)temple;

45 And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.

45 Then the man said to me: “This chamber that faces south is for the priests who keep charge of the temple.(U)

45 The angel told me, "This south-facing chamber is for the priests who maintain the Temple,

46 And the room facing north is for the priests who have the care of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok, who, from among the sons of Levi, come near to the Lord to do the work of his house.

46 but the (BY)chamber which faces toward the north is for the priests who (BZ)keep charge of the altar. These are the (CA)sons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi (CB)come near to the Lord to minister to Him.”

46 And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.

46 The chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok,(V) the ones from the sons of Levi who may approach the Lord to serve Him.”(W)

46 and the north-facing chamber is for the priests who maintain the altar. These are Zadok's descendants, who, as descendants of Levi approach the LORD to minister directly to him."

Inner Courtyard And Temple Measurements

47 And he took the measure of the open square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide, being square; and the altar was in front of the house.

47 He measured the court, a perfect square, a (CC)hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the (am)temple.

47 So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.

47 Next he measured the court. It was square, 175 feet(as) long and 175 feet wide. The altar(X) was in front of the temple.

47 He measured the court in the form of a square at 100 cubits long and 100 cubits wide. The altar stood in front of the Temple.

The Vestibule Of The Temple

48 Then he took me to the covered way before the house, and took the measure of its uprights, five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other: and the doorway was fourteen cubits wide; and the side-walls of the doorway were three cubits on one side and three cubits on the other.

48 Then he brought me to the (CD)porch of the (an)temple and measured each side pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side.

48 And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.

48 Then he brought me to the portico of the temple and measured the pilasters of the portico; they were 8¾ feet(at) thick on each side. The width of the gateway was 24½ feet,(au) and the side walls of the gate were(av) 5¼ feet(aw) wide on each side.

48 Next, he brought me to the Temple porch and measured the side pillars at five cubits on each side. The width of the gate measured three cubits on each side.

49 The covered way was twenty cubits long and twelve cubits wide, and they went up to it by ten steps; and there were pillars by the uprights, one on one side and one on the other.

49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and at the (CE)stairway by which it was ascended were (CF)columns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.

49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.

49 The portico was 35 feet(ax) across and 21(ay) feet(az) deep, and 10 steps led(ba) up to it.(Y) There were pillars by the pilasters, one on each side.(Z)

49 The porch was 20 cubits long and eleven cubits wide. The stairway by which it was ascended was equipped with columns attached to its side pillars, one on each side.
