1 And the word of the Lord came to me saying,

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

1 The word of the Lord came to me:

1 The LORD continued with his message to me.

1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 “Son of man, set your face toward the (A)mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them

2 Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them,

2 “Son of man, turn your face toward the mountains of Israel(A) and prophesy against them.

2 "Son of Man," he said, "turn your face to oppose the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them.

2 “Son of man, set your face against the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them,

3 and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord (a)God! Thus says the Lord (b)God to the mountains, the hills, the ravines and the valleys: “Behold, I Myself am going to bring a sword on you, and (B)I will destroy your high places.

3 And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.

3 You are to say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! This is what the Lord God says to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.(B)

3 Tell the mountains of Israel to listen as the Lord GOD speaks. This is what the Lord GOD has to say to the mountains, hills, streams, and the valleys: "Look! I'm about to bring my sword against you. I'm going to destroy your high places.

3 and say, ‘You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: “Behold, I Myself am going to bring a sword on you, and I will destroy your high places [of idolatrous worship],

4 So your (C)altars will become desolate and your incense altars will be smashed; and I will make your slain fall in front of your idols.

4 And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.

4 Your altars will be desolated and your incense altars smashed. I will throw down your slain in front of your idols.

4 Your altars will become desolate and your sun pillars will be shattered. I'll throw your slain down right in front of your idols.

4 and your altars will become deserted and your pillars for sun-worship will be smashed in pieces; and I will throw down your slain in front of your idols [that cannot bring them back to life].(A)

5 I will also lay the dead bodies of the sons of Israel in front of their idols; and I will scatter your (D)bones around your altars.

5 And I will lay the dead carcases of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will scatter your bones round about your altars.

5 I will lay the corpses of the Israelites in front of their idols and scatter your bones around your altars.

5 I'll place the corpses of the Israelis in front of their idols. I'll scatter your bones around your altar.

5 I will also lay the dead bodies of the children of Israel in front of their [Canaanite] idols; and I will scatter your bones all around your altars.

6 In all your dwellings, (E)cities will become waste and the high places will be desolate, that your altars may become waste and (c)desolate, your (F)idols may be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars may be cut down, and your works may be blotted out.

6 In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.

6 Wherever you live the cities will be in ruins and the high places will be desolate, so that your altars will lie in ruins and be desecrated,(a) your idols smashed and obliterated, your incense altars cut down, and your works wiped out.

6 In all the places where you live, the cities will be desolate. The high places will also be desolate so that your altars will be laid waste, bearing the punishment appropriate to them. Your idols will be shattered, your sun pillars will be hewn down, and your works will be obliterated.

6 Everywhere you live, the cities will become waste and the high places will become deserted, so that your altars may bear their guilt and become deserted, your idols may be broken and destroyed, your incense altars [for sun-worship] may be cut down, and your works may be blotted out.

7 The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the Lord.

7 And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

7 The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am Yahweh.

7 The fatally wounded among you will fall, and at that time you'll know that I am the LORD.

7 The slain will fall among you, then you shall know [without any doubt] that I am the Lord.

8 “However, I will leave a (G)remnant, for you will have those who (H)escaped the sword among the nations when you are scattered among the countries.

8 Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.

8 “Yet I will leave a remnant when you are scattered among the nations, for throughout the countries there will be some of you who will escape the sword.(C)

8 I'll leave a remnant among you those who will escape the sword when I'll have scattered you throughout the earth.

8 “Yet I will leave some of you alive [a remnant], for you will have some who escaped the sword among the nations when you are scattered throughout the countries.

9 Then those of you who escape will (I)remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have (d)(J)been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols; and they will (K)loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations.

9 And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

9 Then your survivors will remember Me among the nations where they are taken captive,(D) how I was crushed by their promiscuous hearts that turned away from Me and by their eyes that lusted after their idols.(E) They will loathe themselves because of the evil things they did,(F) their detestable practices of every kind.

9 Your survivors will remember me among the nations where they'll be taken captives. I've been crushed by their unfaithful hearts that have turned against me.

9 Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be exiled, how I have been broken by their lewdness and their adulterous hearts which have turned away from Me, and by their eyes which lust after their idols; and they will loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed, for all their repulsive acts.

10 Then they will know that I am the Lord; I have not said in vain (e)that I would inflict this disaster on them.”’

10 And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.

10 And they will know that I am the Lord; I did not threaten to bring this disaster on them without a reason.

10 Then they'll know that I am the LORD. I didn't declare this evil that's intended for them without a reason.'"

10 Then they will know [without any doubt] that I am the Lord; I have not said in vain that I would bring this disaster [as punishment] on them.”’

Lament Over The Fall Of Jerusalem

11 “Thus says the Lord (f)God, ‘Clap your hand, (L)stamp your foot and say, “(M)Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, which will fall by (N)sword, famine and plague!

11 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say, Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.

11 “This is what the Lord God says: Clap your hands, stamp your feet,(G) and cry out over all the evil and detestable practices of the house of Israel, who will fall by the sword, famine, and plague.(H)

11 This is what the Lord GOD says: "Clap your hands and stamp your feet! Say, "Oh, no!' Because of all the detestable evil that has come from Israel's house, they'll fall by the sword, famine, and pestilence.

11 “Thus says the Lord God, ‘Strike with your fist, stamp with your foot and say, “Alas, because of all the evil atrocities of the house of Israel, which will fall by sword, by famine, and by virulent disease!

12 He who is (O)far off will die by the plague, and he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who remains and is besieged will die by the famine. Thus will I (P)spend My wrath on them.

12 He that is far off shall die of the pestilence; and he that is near shall fall by the sword; and he that remaineth and is besieged shall die by the famine: thus will I accomplish my fury upon them.

12 The one who is far off will die by plague; the one who is near will fall by the sword; and the one who remains and is spared(b) will die of famine. In this way I will exhaust My wrath on them.(I)

12 The one who lives far away will die by pestilence and the one who is near will die violently. The survivors and their surveillance details will die by famine as I exhaust my rage against them.

12 He who is far away will die of the virulent disease, and he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who remains and is besieged will die by the famine. Thus I will spend My wrath on them.

13 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when their (Q)slain are among their idols around their altars, on (R)every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, under every green tree and under every leafy oak—the places where they offered soothing aroma to all their idols.

13 Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.

13 You will all know that I am Yahweh when their slain lie among their idols around their altars,(J) on every high hill,(K) on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and every leafy oak—the places where they offered pleasing aromas to all their idols.

13 "You'll learn that I am the LORD, when the fatally wounded will be among their idols, around their altars, on every hill, on top of the mountains, under every luxuriant tree, and under all the full-grown foliage every place where they've offered fragrant aromas to all their idols.

13 Then you will know [without any doubt] that I am the Lord, when their slain are among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, under every leafy tree and under every oak with thick branches, the places where they offered sweet incense and a soothing aroma to all their idols.

14 So throughout all their habitations I will (S)stretch out My hand against them and make the land more desolate and waste than the wilderness toward Diblah; thus they will know that I am the Lord.”’”

14 So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

14 I will stretch out My hand against them,(L) and wherever they live I will make the land a desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah.(c) Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”

14 I'll stretch out my hands to strike them and send devastation to the land, from the wilderness of Diblah, throughout all their dwelling places. Then they'll know that I am the LORD."

14 And I will stretch out My hand against them and make the land a more desolate waste than the wilderness toward Diblah [the Moabite city], throughout all the places where they live; and they will know [without any doubt] that I am the Lord.”’”
