Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
Now when these things had been completed, the princes approached me, saying, “The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not
separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites.
‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these
the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled.
You shall not behave thus toward the Lord your God, for every abominable act which the Lord hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and
because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you.
2 Chronicles 33:2
He did evil in the sight of the Lord according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord dispossessed before the sons of Israel.
The sons of Israel who returned from exile and
all those who had separated themselves from the impurity of the nations of the land to join them, to seek the Lord God of Israel, ate the Passover.
Then I will
sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
2 Corinthians 7:1
Therefore, having these promises,
beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
