As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
For even the circumcised don’t keep
the law themselves; however, they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.
So whenever you give to the poor, don’t sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward!
They do everything to be observed by others: They enlarge their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
And He told them:
“You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God’s sight.
They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive greater punishment.”
The one who speaks for himself seeks his own glory. But He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
2 Corinthians 10:12
For we don’t dare classify or compare ourselves with some who commend
themselves. But in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves to themselves, they lack understanding.
2 Corinthians 11:13
For such people are false apostles,
deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and strife,
but others out of good will.
Everyone should look out not only for his own interests,
but also for the interests of others.
Although these have a reputation of wisdom
by promoting ascetic practices, humility, and severe treatment of the body, they are not of any value in curbing self-indulgence.
But not even Titus who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
came down from Judea and began to teach the brothers: “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom prescribed by Moses, you cannot be saved!”
