As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
For those who
are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments.
And He said to them,
“You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.
who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
2 Corinthians 10:12
For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with
some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.
2 Corinthians 11:13
For such men are
false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
These are matters which have, to be sure, the
appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.
But not even
Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
