And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized.
the herdsmen of Gerar
quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they contended with him.
Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but

jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.
What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?
The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
Abram passed through the land as far as the site of
Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,
To your descendants I have given this land,
the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have
brought trouble on me by making me odious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and my men being few in number, they will gather together against me and attack me and I will be destroyed, I and my household.”
Again I said, “The thing which you are doing is not good; should you not walk in the fear of our God because of
the reproach of the nations, our enemies?
Do all things without
grumbling or disputing;
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.
1 Thessalonians 4:12
so that you will
behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.

Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
