The Parting Of Abram And Lot
1 Abram went up out of Egypt: he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev.
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
1 So Abram went up from Egypt to (A)the (a)Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
1 Abram traveled from Egypt, along with his wife and everyone who belonged to his household including Lot to the Negev.
3 He went on his journeys from the Negev even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;
3 He went (b)on his journeys from the (c)Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, (C)between Bethel and Ai,
3 He went by stages from the Negev to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly been,
3 He journeyed by stages from the Negev to Bethel, the place where his tent had formerly been, between Bethel and Ai,
4 to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on the name of the LORD.
4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
4 to the place of the (D)altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
4 where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD.
6 The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together: for their substance was great, so that they could not live together.
6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
6 And (F)the land could not (d)sustain them (e)while dwelling together, (G)for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.
6 But the land was unable to support them as long as they stayed together, for they had so many possessions that they could not stay together,(C)
6 But the land could not support them living together, because they had so many livestock that they could not stay together.
7 There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time.
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
7 (H)And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now (I)the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.
7 and there was quarreling between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock.(D) At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.(E)
7 There was strife between the herdsmen in charge of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen in charge of Lot's livestock. Also, at that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.
8 Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
8 (J)So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.
8 Then Abram said to Lot, “Please, let’s not have quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, since we are relatives.(b)
8 So Abram told Lot, "Please, let's not have strife between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, since we are relatives.
9 Isn't the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left."
9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
9 Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left.”
9 Isn’t the whole land before you? Separate from me: if you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”
9 Isn't the whole land available to you? Let's separate: If you go to the left, then I will go to the right; if you go to the right, then I will go to the left."
10 Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the (f)(K)valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord (L)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like (M)the garden of the Lord, (N)like the land of Egypt as you go to (O)Zoar.
10 Lot looked out and saw that the entire Jordan Valley(F) as far as(c) Zoar(G) was well watered everywhere like the Lord’s garden(H) and the land of Egypt. This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.(I)
10 Lot looked around and noticed that the whole Jordan plain as far as Zoar was well-watered like the garden of the LORD or like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
11 So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
11 So Lot chose for himself all the (g)valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other.
11 So Lot chose the entire Jordan Valley for himself. Then Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated from each other.
11 So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan plain. Then Lot traveled eastward, and they separated from each other.
12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.
12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
12 Abram (h)settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot (i)settled in (P)the cities of the (j)valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.
12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot lived in the cities of the valley and set up his tent near Sodom.
12 So Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the plain, setting up his tent in the vicinity of Sodom.
The Lord's Third Promise To Abram
14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,
14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
14 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “(S)Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, (T)northward and southward and eastward and westward;
14 After Lot had separated from him, the Lord said to Abram, “Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west,(K)
14 After Lot had separated from Abram, the LORD told Abram, "Look off to the north, south, east, and west from where you're living,
16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered.
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
16 I will make your (m)descendants (W)as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your (n)descendants can also be numbered.
16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth,(M) so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.
16 I'll make your descendants as plentiful as the specks of dust of the earth, so that if one could count the specks of dust of the earth, then your descendants could also be counted.
17 Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you."
17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
17 Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.”
17 Get up! Walk throughout the length and breadth of the land, because I'm going to give it to you."
18 Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the LORD.
18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.
18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the (o)(Z)oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built (AA)an altar to the Lord.
18 So Abram moved his tent and went to live near the oaks of Mamre at Hebron,(N) where he built an altar to the Lord.
18 So Abram moved his tent and settled beside the oaks of Mamre that are by Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.
