he has taken Israel his servant into his protection, in pursuance of the mercy,

who are Israelites; who had the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the law, the form of divine worship, and the promises;

this therefore I say, that the law, which was not till four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul the promise, that was ratified before by God, so as to set the promise afoot.

that at that time ye were without all knowledge of the Messiah, being aliens from the common-wealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and living in the world without any true knowledge of God.
