Abram And Circumcision, The Sign Of The Covenant
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
1 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, (A)the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him,“I am (a)God (B)Almighty;Walk before Me, and be (b)(C)blameless.
1 When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him, saying, “I am God Almighty.(A) Live in My presence and be blameless.(B)
1 When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and announced, "I am God Almighty. Live in constant awareness that I'm always with you, and be blameless.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
2 I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you greatly.”
2 I'll establish my covenant between me and you, and I'll greatly increase your numbers."
2 “I will establish My covenant (everlasting promise) between Me and you,And I will multiply you exceedingly [through your descendants].”
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you,And you will be the father of a (G)multitude of nations.
4 "Look, I've made a covenant with you. You will be the father of many nations.
4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you,And [as a result] you shall be the father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
5 “No longer shall your name be called (d)Abram,But (H)your name shall be (e)Abraham;For (I)I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.
5 Your name will no longer be Abram,(b) but your name will be Abraham,(c) for I will make you the father of many nations.(C)
5 Your name is no longer to be Abram. Instead your name will be Abraham, since I'll make you the father of many nations.
5 “No longer shall your name be Abram (exalted father),But your name shall be Abraham (father of a multitude);For I will make you the father of many nations.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and (J)kings will come forth from you.
6 I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.
6 I'm going to cause you to have many descendants, and I'll bring nations from you. Kings will come from you.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
7 I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your (f)descendants after you throughout their generations for an (K)everlasting covenant, (L)to be God to you and (M)to your (g)descendants after you.
7 I will keep My covenant between Me and you, and your future offspring throughout their generations, as an everlasting covenant(D) to be your God and the God of your offspring after you.(E)
7 I'm establishing my covenant between me and you, and with your descendants who come after you, generation after generation, as an eternal covenant, to be your God and your descendants' God after you.
8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
8 (N)I will give to you and to your (h)descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and (O)I will be their God.”
8 And to you and your future offspring(F) I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as an eternal possession,(G) and I will be their God.”
8 I'll give to you and to your descendants the land to which you have traveled all the land of Canaan as an eternal possession. I will be their God."
The Mark Of The Covenant
9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
9 God said further to Abraham, “Now as for you, (P)you shall keep My covenant, you and your (i)descendants after you throughout their generations.
9 God also said to Abraham, “As for you, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations are to keep My covenant.
9 God continued to speak to Abraham, "You and your descendants who are born in the future are to keep my covenant that is, you and your descendants, generation after generation.
9 Further, God said to Abraham, “As for you [your part of the agreement], you shall keep and faithfully obey [the terms of] My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
10 (Q)This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your (j)descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.
10 This is My covenant, which you are to keep, between Me and you and your offspring after you: Every one of your males must be circumcised.
10 Here is my covenant that you are to observe, between me and you and your descendants: Every male among you is to be circumcised.
10 This is [the sign of] My covenant, which you shall keep and faithfully obey, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
11 And (R)you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.
11 You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskin to serve as a sign of the covenant between Me and you.(d)(H)
11 You are all to be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and this is to be the sign of the covenant between me and you.
11 And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be the sign (symbol, memorial) of the covenant between Me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
12 And every male among you who is (S)eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your (k)descendants.
12 Throughout your generations, every male among you at eight days old is to be circumcised.(I) This includes a slave born in your house and one purchased with money from any foreigner. The one who is not your offspring,
12 Generation after generation, every male among you is to be circumcised on the eighth day after his birth, including the servant born in your house or the one purchased from a foreigner, who is not of your offspring.
12 Every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, [including] a servant whether born in the house or one who is purchased with [your] money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
13 A servant who is born in your house or (T)who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised; thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
13 a slave born in your house, as well as one purchased with money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be marked in your flesh as an everlasting covenant.
13 The servant born in your house or the one purchased with money is to be circumcised. My covenant is to remain in your flesh as an eternal covenant.
13 A servant who is born in your house or one who is purchased with your money must be circumcised; and [the sign of] My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
14 But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be (U)cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
14 If any male is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that man will be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
14 Any uncircumcised male who does not have the foreskin of his flesh circumcised on the eighth day after his birth is to be eliminated from his people because he has broken my covenant."
14 And the male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
Isaac's Birth Promised
15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but (l)Sarah shall be her name.
15 God said to Abraham, “As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai, for Sarah(e) will be her name.
15 God told Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are not to call her Sarai any longer, because her name is to be Sarah.
16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.
16 I will bless her, and indeed I will give you (V)a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; (W)kings of peoples will (m)come from her.”
16 I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her.(J) I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”
16 I will bless her. Furthermore, I will give you a son from her. I will bless her, so that nations, kings, and people will come from her."
16 I will bless her, and indeed I will also give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
17 Then Abraham (X)fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And (Y)will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
17 Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed(K) and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, give birth?”
17 Abraham fell to the ground, laughed, and told himself, "Can a child be born to a 100-year-old man? Can a 90-year-old Sarah give birth?"
17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before You!”
18 So Abraham responded to God, "If only Ishmael would live in constant awareness that you're always with him!"
18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael [my firstborn] might live before You!”
19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
19 But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you (Z)a son, and you shall call his name (n)Isaac; and (AA)I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his (o)descendants after him.
19 But God said, “No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac.(g) I will confirm My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his future offspring.
19 But God replied, "No, but your wife Sarah will give birth to your son, and you are to name him Isaac. I'll confirm my covenant with him as an eternal covenant for his descendants.
19 But God said, “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed, and you shall name him Isaac (laughter); and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant and with his descendants after him.
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and (AB)will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. (AC)He shall (p)become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a (AD)great nation.
20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will certainly bless him; I will make him fruitful and will multiply him greatly. He will father 12 tribal leaders,(L) and I will make him into a great nation.
20 And as for Ishmael, I've heard you. I'll bless him, and he'll have many descendants. I will multiply him greatly, he'll father twelve tribal leaders, and I'll cause his descendants to become a great nation.
21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
21 But My covenant I will establish with (AE)Isaac, whom (AF)Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.”
21 But I will confirm My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”(M)
21 Now as to Isaac, I'll confirm my covenant with him, to whom Sarah will give birth as your son at this time next year."
21 But My covenant [My promise, My solemn pledge], I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”
Abraham's Household Circumcised
23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.
23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all the servants who were (AH)born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, (AI)as God had said to him.
23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael and all the slaves born in his house or purchased with his money—every male among the members of Abraham’s household—and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that very day, just as God had said to him.
23 Abraham took his son Ishmael and all the servants born in his house or purchased with his money every male among the men of his household and circumcised them that very day, just as God had spoken to him.
23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all the servants who were born in his house and all who were purchased with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin the very same day, as God had said to him.
25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

27 And all the men of his household—both slaves born in his house and those purchased with money from a foreigner—were circumcised with him.
27 Every man born in his household as well as those who had been purchased with money from a foreigner was circumcised with him.
27 All the men [servants] of his household, both those born in the house and those purchased with money from a foreigner, were circumcised along with him [as the sign of God’s covenant with Abraham].
