Jacob Flees To Haran
1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
1 So Isaac called Jacob and (A)blessed him and charged him, and said to him, “(B)You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
1 Isaac summoned Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him: “Don’t take a wife from the Canaanite women.
1 Later, Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, instructing him, "Don't marry a wife from the local Canaanite women.
1 So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, and said to him, “You shall not marry one of the women of Canaan.
2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.
2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of (C)Bethuel your mother’s father; and from there take to yourself a wife from the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.
2 Go at once to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father. Marry one of the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
2 Instead, get up, travel to Paddan-aram, and visit the household of Bethuel, your mother's father. Marry one of Laban's daughters, since he's your mother's brother.
3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

Esau Marries An Ishmaelite
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take to himself a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he charged him, saying, “(M)You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,”
6 Esau noticed that Isaac blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to get a wife there. When he blessed him, Isaac commanded Jacob, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.”
6 Esau noticed that after Isaac had blessed Jacob as he was sending him off to Paddan-aram to marry a wife from there, he had instructed Jacob, "Don't marry a Canaanite woman."
6 Now Esau noticed that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to take a wife for himself from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a prohibition, saying, “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,”
7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;

9 and [to appease his parents] Esau went to [the family of] Ishmael and took as his wife, in addition to the wives he [already] had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth [Ishmael’s firstborn son].
Jacob's Dream
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

12 when he had a dream! He saw a raised highway that had been built with its ending point on earth and its beginning point in heaven. God's angels were ascending and descending on it.
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
13 And behold, (U)the Lord stood (h)above it and said, “I am the Lord, (V)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it (W)to you and to (X)your (i)descendants.
13 Yahweh was standing there beside him,(a) saying, “I am Yahweh,(H) the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land that you are now sleeping on.
13 And there was the LORD, standing above it and telling Jacob, "I am the LORD God of your grandfather Abraham. I'm Isaac's God, too. I'm giving you and your descendants the ground on which you're sleeping.
13 And behold, the Lord stood above and around him and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your [father’s] father and the God of Isaac; I will give to you and to your descendants the land [of promise] on which you are lying.
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
14 Your (j)descendants will also be like (Y)the dust of the earth, and you will (k)spread out (Z)to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and (AA)in you and in your (l)descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
14 Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth,(I) and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.(J)

15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
15 Behold, (AB)I am with you and (AC)will keep you wherever you go, and (AD)will bring you back to this land; for (AE)I will not leave you until I have done what I have (m)promised you.”
15 Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land,(K) for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
15 Now pay attention! I'm here with you, and I'm going to be watching over you wherever you go. I'm going to bring you back to this land, because I won't ever leave you until I've accomplished what I've promised about you."
15 Behold, I am with you and will keep [careful watch over you and guard] you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this [promised] land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
16 Then Jacob (AF)awoke from his sleep and said, “(AG)Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”

17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
20 Then Jacob (AL)made a vow, saying, “(AM)If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I (q)take, and will give me (r)(AN)food to eat and garments to wear,
20 Then Jacob made a vow:(N) “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, if He provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear,
20 Then he made this solemn vow: "If God remains with me, watches over me throughout this journey that I'm taking, gives me food to eat and clothes to wear,
20 Then Jacob made a vow (promise), saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I take, and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear,
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
22 This stone, which I have set up as a pillar, (AQ)will be God’s house, and (AR)of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”
