Joseph Interprets Dreams In Prison
1 And it will be after these words, The cup-bearer of the king of Egypt, and the baker, sinned to their lord the king of Egypt
1 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.
1 Then it came about after these things, (A)the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt.
1 Some time later, both the senior security advisor to the king of Egypt and his head chef offended their master, Egypt's king.
2 And Pharaoh will be angry against his two eunuchs, against the chief of the cup-bearers, and against the chief of the bakers.
2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
2 Pharaoh was so angry with his two officers his senior security advisor and his head chef
3 And he will give them in guard in the house of the chief of the cooks, to the house of the fortress, the place where Joseph was bound there.
3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
3 So he put them in confinement in the house of the (C)captain of the bodyguard, in the jail, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned.
3 and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard(B) in the prison where Joseph was confined.
3 that he locked them up in the prison dungeon operated by the captain of the guard, the very place where Joseph was imprisoned.
4 And the chief of the cooks will appoint Joseph over them, and he will serve them; and they will be days in guard.
4 And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
4 The captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he (a)took care of them; and they were in confinement for (b)some time.
4 The captain of the guard assigned Joseph to them, and he became their personal attendant. And they were in custody for some time.(a)
4 The captain of the guard entrusted them to Joseph's custody, who took care of them, since they were to remain there in custody for a number of days.
5 And they will dream a dream, they two, a man his dream in one night, a man according to the interpretation of his dream; the cup-bearer and the baker which were to the king of Egypt, who were bound in the house of the fortress.
5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
5 Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in jail, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation.
5 The Egyptian king’s cupbearer and baker, who were confined in the prison, each had a dream. Both had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
5 Then the two of them each had a dream. They both had their dreams the same night, and there were separate interpretations for each dream the senior security advisor and the head chef to the king of Egypt, who had confined them in prison.
6 And Joseph will come to them in the morning, and will see them, and behold, they sad.
6 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.

7 And he will ask Pharaoh's eunuchs which were with him in guard of the house of his lord, saying, Why are your faces evil this day?
7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
7 He asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, “(e)(D)Why are your faces so sad today?”

8 And they will say to him, We dreamed a dream, and there is none interpreting it And Joseph will say to them, Are not interpretations to God? Relate now to me.
8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
8 Then they said to him, “(E)We have (f)had a dream and there is no one to interpret it.” Then Joseph said to them, “(F)Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please.”
8 “We had dreams,” they said to him, “but there is no one to interpret them.”Then Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”(D)
8 "We had a dream," they replied, "but there's no one to interpret it." "Interpretations belong to God," Joseph told them, "so please tell me your stories."
9 And the chief of the cup-bearers will relate his dream to Joseph, and will say to him, In my dream, and behold a vine before me;
9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
9 So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, (g)behold, there was a vine in front of me;

9 So the senior security advisor related his dream to Joseph. "In my dream," he said, "all of a sudden there was a vine in front of me!
10 And in the vine three shoots; and this as flourishing, its leaf went forth; the clusters of grapes were ripened.
10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

11 And Pharaoh's cup in my hand; and I shall take the grapes and press them into Pharaoh's cup, and I shall give the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
11 Now Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh’s (h)hand.”
11 Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
11 Then, with Pharaoh's cup in my hand, I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, then handed the cup directly to Pharaoh."
12 And Joseph will say to him, This its interpretation: The three shoots they are three days.
12 And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
12 Then Joseph said to him, “This is the (G)interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;
12 Then Joseph told him, "This is what your dream means: The three branches are three days.
13 Yet in three days Pharaoh will lift up thy head, and restore thee to thy place, and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, according to thy first judgment, when thou wert his cup-bearer.
13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
13 within three more days Pharaoh will (i)lift up your head and restore you to your (j)office; and you will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand according to your former custom when you were his cupbearer.
13 In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head(F) and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand the way you used to when you were his cupbearer.
13 Within three days, Pharaoh will encourage you and return you to your responsibilities. You'll attend to Pharaoh's personal wine cup, just as you did when you were his senior security advisor.
14 But remember me with thyself, when it shall be well to thee, and now do-kindness to me, and remember me to Pharaoh and bring me out of this house.
14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
14 Only (k)keep me in mind when it goes well with you, and please (H)do me a kindness (l)by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.
14 But when all goes well for you, remember that I was with you. Please show kindness to me by mentioning me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison.

15 For by stealing, I was stolen from the land Of the Hebrews: and also here, I have not done anything that they put me in the pit

15 For (I)I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the (m)dungeon.”
15 For I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews,(G) and even here I have done nothing that they should put me in the dungeon.”(H)
15 because I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews. Not only that, I haven't done anything that deserves me being confined to this pit."
16 And the chief of the bakers see that he interpreted good, and he will say to Joseph, I also in my dream, and behold, three wicker-baskets of white bread upon my head.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
16 When the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, he said to Joseph, “I also saw in my dream, and behold, there were three baskets of white bread on my head;
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was positive, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream. Three baskets of white bread were on my head.
16 When the head chef heard that the interpretation was good, he told Joseph, "I was also in my dream. All of a sudden, there were three baskets with white bread stacked on top of my head.
17 And in the high basket of all, food of Pharaoh, the work of baking; and the birds ate them from the basket above my head.
17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

18 And Joseph will answer and say, This its interpretation: the three baskets, they are three days;
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
18 Then Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days;
18 “This is its interpretation,” Joseph replied. “The three baskets are three days.
18 Joseph replied, "This is what your dream means: The three baskets are also three days.
19 Yet in three days, Pharaoh will lift up thy head above thee, and hang thee upon a tree, and the birds shall eat thy flesh from thee.
19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
19 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head from you and will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off you.”

20 And it will be in the third day, the day of the birth of Pharaoh, and he will make a drinking to all his servants; and he will lilt up the head of the chief of the cup-bearers, and the head of the chief of the bakers, in the midst of his servants.
20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
20 Thus it came about on the third day, which was (J)Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; (K)and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

20 On the third day, which just happened to be Pharaoh's birthday, he threw a party for all his servants. He lifted the head of both his senior security advisor and of his head chef in front of his servants
21 And he will restore the chief of the cup-bearers to his possession; and he will give the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:
21 Pharaoh restored the chief cupbearer to his position as cupbearer, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.
21 that is, he restored his senior security advisor to his former responsibilities, including attending to Pharaoh's personal wine cup,
