Jacob And His Offspring Go To Egypt

1 And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

1 Later, Israel began his journey, taking along everything that he owned, and arrived at Beer-sheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2 And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here I am.

3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father. Fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will there make of thee a great nation.

4 I will go down with thee into Egypt, and I will also surely bring thee up again, and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6 And they took up their goods, and all their property, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, they came into the land of Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him:

Jacob's Family

8 And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came into Egypt with their father Jacob, Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben.

8 And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.

20 Joseph's sons born in the land of Egypt were Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On, bore for him.

21 And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, and Becher, and Ashbel. And the sons of Bela were Gera, and Naaman, and Anchis, and Rosh, and Mamphim. And Gera begot Ard.

21 And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.

27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were {nine (LXX)}souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt, were {seventy-five (LXX/NT)}.

Jacob Arrives In Egypt

28 And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to show the way before him to Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen.

28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.

28 Now Jacob had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to prepare for his arrival(i) at Goshen.(S) When they came to the land of Goshen,

29 And Joseph made his chariot ready, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen. And he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

29 Joseph (w)prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared (x)before him, he fell on his neck and (Y)wept on his neck a long time.

29 Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. Joseph presented himself to him, threw his arms around him, and wept for a long time.(T)

29 Joseph prepared his chariot and went to meet his father Israel in Goshen. As soon as Jacob appeared in his presence, he embraced him and wept for a long time as he held on to him.

30 And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, that thou are yet alive.

30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.

30 Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”

30 Then Israel said to Joseph, “At last I can die, now that I have seen your face and know you are still alive!”

30 "Now let me die," Israel told Joseph, "since I've seen your face and confirmed that you're still alive!"

31 And Joseph said to his brothers, and to his father's house, I will go up, and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, My brothers, and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “(Z)I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;

31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and inform Pharaoh, telling him: My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.(U)

31 But Joseph addressed his brothers and his father's household and told them, "I'll go up and tell Pharaoh that my brothers and my father's household have arrived from Canaan to be with me.

32 And the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

32 and the men are shepherds, for they have been (y)keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’

32 The men are shepherds; they also raise livestock. They have brought their sheep and cattle and all that they have.

32 I'll mention that the men are shepherds. Because they've been taking care of livestock, they brought along their flocks, their herds, and everything else that they own.

33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

33 When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘(AA)What is your occupation?’

33 When Pharaoh addresses you and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’

33 When Pharaoh calls for you and asks you "What's your occupation?'

34 that ye shall say, Thy servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers, that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.

34 That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

34 you shall say, ‘Your servants have been (z)(AB)keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ that you may (aa)live in the land of (AC)Goshen; for every shepherd is (ab)(AD)loathsome to the Egyptians.”

34 you are to say, ‘Your servants, both we and our fathers, have raised livestock(j) from our youth until now.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to Egyptians.”(V)

34 you are to tell him, "Your servants have been taking care of livestock since we were youths. We and our ancestors have taken care of livestock.' That way, you'll be able to live in the Goshen territory, since shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."
