Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it.
But now, do
consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the Lord,
“ Would that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would discern their future!
But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger!
So the Lord stirred up the spirit of
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,
When the prophets,
Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them,
“Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Let your hands be
strong, you who are listening in these days to these words from the mouth of the prophets, those who spoke in the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, to the end that the temple might be built.
In the fifth year you are to eat of its fruit, that its yield may increase for you; I am the Lord your God.
