He must not increase his herd of horses. He must not send the people to return to Egypt to get more horses. For Jehovah said to you: You should never again return that way.

Some boast in chariots and others in horses, but we will boast in the name of Jehovah our God.

A horse is a false hope for victory. It does not deliver anyone by its great strength.

You go to Egypt for help without asking for my advice. You want Egypt to protect you. You put your trust in Egypt's military might.

The Egyptians are humans, not God. Their horses are flesh and blood, not spirit. Jehovah will stretch out his powerful hand (extend his power). The one who gives help will stumble. The one who receives help will fall. Both will die together.

Now, make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses if you can put riders on them.

O Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like a luxuriant cypress and fruit comes from me.

For I will take away the names of the Baals out of her mouth, and they will no more be mentioned by their name.

You will be ashamed of the oaks that you wanted to worship. You will be embarrassed by the garden that you have chosen for your gods.

That day people will throw their silver and gold idols, that they made for themselves to worship, to the moles and the bats.

By this Jacob's guilt will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruitage of the removal of his sin. When he makes all the altar stones to be like chalk stones crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.

I will sprinkle clean water on you and make you clean instead of unclean. Then I will cleanse you from all your idols.

They will no longer dishonor themselves with their idols, with their detestable things, or with their rebellious acts. I will forgive them for all the times they turned away from me and sinned. I will cleanse them so that they will be my people, and I will be their God.

The voice said: Son of man, this is the place where my throne is and the place where my feet rest. This is where I will live among the Israelites for a very long time. Then the people of Israel and their kings will no longer dishonor my holy name by acting like prostitutes. They will not dishonor it with the dead bodies of their kings.

It will happen, said Jehovah: I will remove and destroy your horses and your chariots from among you.

Jehovah of Hosts declared: I will remove the names of the idols from the land! They will no longer be remembered. I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to leave the land.

Do not mistreat any widow or orphan.

You have seen trouble and grief and placed them under your control. The victim entrusts himself to you. You alone have been the helper of orphans.

In his holy habitation God is a father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows.

Jehovah protects the strangers. He supports the fatherless and the widow, but he overthrows the way of the wicked.

Do not remove the old landmark (boundry). And do not enter the field of the fatherless.

I will not leave you desolate. I will come to you.

So the Israelites got rid of their idols of Baal and Astarte. They worshiped only Jehovah.

If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land.

On that day people will regard their Maker. Their eyes will look (offer respect) to the Holy One of Israel.

We are children without fathers. Our mothers are like widows.
