A Call To Yahweh
1 In their adversity they shall seek me, and say, "Come, let us turn again to the LORD: for he hath smitten us, and he shall heal us;
1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
1 “(A)Come, let us return to the Lord. For (B)He has torn us, but (C)He will heal us;He has (a)wounded us, but He will (D)bandage us.
1 Come, let us return to the Lord.(A)For He has torn us,(B)and He will heal us;(C)He has wounded us,and He will bind up our wounds.(D)
1 "Come, let us return to the LORD; even though he has torn us, he will heal us. Even though he has wounded us, he will bind our wounds.
2 He hath wounded us, and he shall bind us up again; after two days shall he quicken us, in the third day he shall raise us up, so that we shall live in his sight.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
2 “He will (E)revive us after two days;He will (F)raise us up on the third day,That we may live before Him.
2 He will revive us after two days,(E)and on the third day He will raise us upso we can live in His presence.(F)
2 After two days, he will restore us to life, on the third day he will raise us up, and we will live in his presence.
3 Then shall we have understanding, and endeavor ourselves to know the LORD. He shall go forth as the spring of the day, and come unto us as the evening and morning rain upon the earth."
3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
3 “So let us (G)know, let us press on to know the Lord. His (H)going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the (I)rain,Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
3 Let us strive to know the Lord.(G)His appearance is as sure as the dawn.(H)He will come to us like the rain,(I)like the spring showers that water the land.
3 Let us know, let us pursue knowledge of the LORD; his coming is as certain as the dawn. He will come to us like the rain, like the autumn and spring rains come on the earth.
The Lord's First Lament
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, how shall I entreat thee? Seeing your love is like a morning cloud, and like a dew that goeth early away.
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
4 What shall I do with you, O (J)Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? For your (b)loyalty is like a (K)morning cloudAnd like the dew which goes away early.
4 What am I going to do with you, Ephraim?(J)What am I going to do with you, Judah?Your loyalty is like the morning mist(K)and like the early dew that vanishes.
4 "What am I to do with you, Ephraim? What am I to do with you, Judah? Your love is like a morning rain cloud it passes away like the morning dew.
5 Therefore have I cut down the prophets, and let them be slain for my words' sake: so that thy punishment shall come to light.
5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
5 Therefore I have (L)hewn them in pieces by the prophets;I have slain them by the (M)words of My mouth; And the judgments on you are like the light that goes forth.
5 This is why I have used the prophetsto cut them down;(a)(L)I have killed them with the words of My mouth. My judgment strikes like lightning.(b)
5 Therefore I cut them to pieces by the prophets, killing them by the words from my mouth. The verdict against you shines like a beacon.
6 For I have pleasure in loving-kindness, and not in offering: Yea in the knowledge of God, more than in burnt sacrifice.
6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
6 For (N)I delight in loyalty (O)rather than sacrifice,And in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
6 For it is love that I seek, and not sacrifice; knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
7 But even like as Adam did, so have they broken my covenant, and set me at naught.
7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
7 But (P)like (c)Adam they have (Q)transgressed the covenant; There they have (R)dealt treacherously against Me.
7 "But like Adam, they broke the covenant; in this they have acted deceitfully against me.
9 The multitude of the priests is like a heap of thieves, murderers and bloodthirsty: for they have wrought abomination.
9 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.
9 And as (U)raiders wait for a man,So a band of priests (V)murder on the way to Shechem;Surely they have committed (d)(W)crime.
9 Like raiders who wait in ambush for someone,(S)a band of priests murders on the road to Shechem.(T)They commit atrocities.(U)
9 Like a gang of thieves that stalk a man, priests commit murder along the road to Shechem, committing shameful crimes.
10 Horrible things have I seen in the house of Israel: there playeth Ephraim the harlot, and Israel is defiled.
10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
10 In the house of Israel I have seen a (X)horrible thing;Ephraim’s (Y)harlotry is there, Israel has defiled itself.
10 I have seen something horrible(V) in the house of Israel:Ephraim’s promiscuity is there;(W) Israel is defiled.
10 I have seen a horrible evil in the house of Israel Ephraim's promiscuity. Israel is defiled.
Ephraim's Guilt
11 But Judah shall have a harvest for himself, when I return the captivity of my people.
11 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
11 Also, O Judah, there is a (Z)harvest appointed for you,When I (AA)restore the fortunes of My people.
11 "So, Judah, a harvest has been appointed for you when I restore my people from captivity."
