They went up to the idols' house, even to Dibon to the high places, to weep for Nebo; and Moab did mourn for Medeba. All their heads were bald, and all their beards shaven.

They shall make them no baldness upon their heads or shave off the locks of their beards, nor make any marks in their flesh.

Thus sayeth the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel against Moab, "Woe be to the city of Nebo, for it shall be laid waste, brought to confusion and taken. Yea the strong city of Kiriathaim shall be brought to shame, and afraid.

Their light is out, from Heshbon unto Dibon! And we made a wilderness even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba!"

And Moses went from the fields of Moab up into mount Nebo which is the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead even unto Dan,

And instead of good smell there shall be stink among them. And for their girdles there shall be loose bands. And for well set hair there shall be baldness. Instead of a stomacher, a sackcloth; and for their beauty, witheredness and sunburning.

And thou, daughter Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in poverty. For he that destroyeth Moab, shall come up to thee also, and break down thy strongholds.

Ye shall not round the locks of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the tufts of thy beard.

"The land of Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,

Nebo, Baalmeon - and turned their names - and Sibmah also: and gave names unto the cities which they built.

Ye are the children of the LORD your God; cut not yourselves nor make you any baldness between the eyes for any man's death.

And their coasts were from Aroer that lieth on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that lieth in the river, and all the plain about Medeba,

Then Job stood up, and rent his clothes, shaved his head, fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

Mourn, ye ports; weep, ye cities; and fear thou, O whole Philistia, for there shall come from the North a smoke, whose power no man may abide.

In their streets were they girded about with sackcloth. In all the tops of their houses and streets was there nothing, but mourning and weeping.

Therefore shall Moab make lamentation because of the Moabites that shall be slain: yea, they shall wail all together. Because of the foundations of the city of brick shall ye complain, even ye lame people that are left only behind.

And it shall come to pass, that when it is seen that Moab shall be made weary of his hill-chapels, he shall come to his temple to pray - but he shall not be made able.

And at the same time shall the LORD of Hosts call men to weeping, mourning, to baldness and a putting on of sackcloth.

Wherefore cut off thine hair, and cast it away; take up a complaint in the whole land, for the LORD shall cast away and scatter the people, that he is displeased withal.'

Baldness is come upon Gaza. Ashkelon with her other valleys shall keep her peace. How long wilt thou slay,

and Dibon, upon Nebo, and the house of Diblathaim,

Therefore shall their mourning be made for Moab, and every man shall cry for Moab's sake: a lamentation shall be made to the men that stand upon the wall.

All heads shall be shaven, and all beards clipped off: all hands bound, and all loins girded about with sack cloth.
