And you will swear, ‘As the Lord lives,’

In truth, in justice and in righteousness;

Then the nations will bless themselves in Him,
And in Him they will glory.”

Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery and swear falsely, and

offer sacrifices to Baal and walk after other gods that you have not known,

You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.

“Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are named Israel
And who came forth from the

loins of Judah,

Who swear by the name of the Lord
And invoke the God of Israel,
But not in truth nor in righteousness.

Listen to the word of the Lord, O sons of Israel,

For the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is no faithfulness or kindness
Or knowledge of God in the land.

They speak mere words,

With worthless oaths they make covenants;

And judgment sprouts like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.

Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the whole land; surely everyone who steals will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.

“Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the

alien and do not fear Me,” says the Lord of hosts.

and

immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,

holding to a form of

godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.

They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.
