Jesus' Farewell Discourse

1 “Your heart must not be troubled.(A) Believe(a) in God;(B) believe also in Me.

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

1 (A)Do not let your heart be troubled; (a)believe in God, believe also in Me.

1 "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

1 “Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me.

2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places;(b) if not, I would have told you. I am going away(C) to prepare a place for you.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for (B)I go to prepare a place for you.

2 There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there weren't, I wouldn't have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you, would I?

2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you.

3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back(D) and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.(E)

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

3 If I go and prepare a place for you, (C)I will come again and receive you to Myself, that (D)where I am, there you may be also.

3 And since I'm going away to prepare a place for you, I'll come back again and welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.

4 You know the way to where I am going.”(c)(F)

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”

4 You know where I am going, and you know the way."

4 And [to the place] where I am going, you know the way.”

Jesus The Way To The Father

5 “Lord,” Thomas(G) said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?”

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

5 (E)Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”

5 Thomas asked him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"

5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus told him, “I am(H) the way,(I) the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

6 Jesus *said to him, “I am (F)the way, and (G)the truth, and (H)the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

6 Jesus said to him, (a)I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Jesus Reveals The Father

7 “If you know Me, you will also know(d) My Father.(J) From now on you do know Him(K) and have seen Him.”

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

7 (I)If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you (J)know Him, and have (K)seen Him.”

7 If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him and have seen him."

7 If you had [really] known Me, you would also have known My Father. From now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

8 “Lord,” said Philip,(L) “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

8 (L)Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”

8 Philip told him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us."

8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father and then we will be satisfied.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father.(M) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

9 Jesus *said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? (M)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

9 "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?" Jesus asked him. "The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, "Show us the Father'?

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you do not know Me yet, Philip, nor recognize clearly who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’

10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me?(N) The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own.(O) The Father who lives in Me does His works.(P)

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

10 Do you not believe that (N)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (O)The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

10 You believe, don't you, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I don't speak on my own. It is the Father who dwells in me and who carries out his work.

10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not say on My own initiative or authority, but the Father, abiding continually in Me, does His works [His attesting miracles and acts of power].

11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe(e) because of the works themselves.(Q)

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

11 Believe Me that (P)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (Q)believe because of the works themselves.

11 Believe me, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of what I've been doing.

11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe [Me] because of the [very] works themselves [which you have witnessed].

Praying In Jesus' Name

12 “I assure you: The one who believes in Me(R) will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these,(S) because I am going to the Father.(T)

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (R)greater works than these he will do; because (S)I go to the Father.

12 Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the one who believes in me will also do what I'm doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I'm going to the Father.

12 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in Me [as Savior] will also do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these [in extent and outreach], because I am going to the Father.

13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified(U) in the Son.(V)

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

13 (T)Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that (U)the Father may be glorified in the Son.

13 I'll do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

13 And I will do whatever you ask in My name [(b)as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son.(A)

14 If you ask Me(f) anything in My name,(W) I will do it.(g)(X)

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

14 If you ask Me anything (V)in My name, I will do it.

14 If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it."

14 If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it.

17 He is the Spirit(AA) of truth.(AB) The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be(i) in you.(AC)

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

17 that is (Y)the Spirit of truth, (Z)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

17 He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you.

17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (AA)I will come to you.

18 I'm not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, bereaved, and helpless]; I will come [back] to you.

The Father, The Son, And The Holy Spirit

19 “In a little while the world will see Me no longer,(AD) but you will see Me.(AE) Because I live, you will live(AF) too.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

19 (c)(AB)After a little while (AC)the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; (AD)because I live, you will live also.

19 "In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.

19 After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.

20 In that day you will know that I am in My Father,(AG) you are in Me, and I am in you.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

20 (AE)In that day you will know that (AF)I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

20 At that time, you'll know that I am in my Father, that you are in me, and that I am in you.

20 On that day [when that time comes] you will know for yourselves that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.

21 The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me.(AH) And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father.(AI) I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

21 (AG)He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (AH)he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (AI)disclose Myself to him.”

21 The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].”

22 Judas(AJ) (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it You’re going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”(AK)

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

22 (AJ)Judas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened (AK)that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”

22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, "Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"

22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, what has happened that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”

23 Jesus answered and said to him, (AL)If anyone loves Me, he will (AM)keep My word; and (AN)My Father will love him, and We (AO)will come to him and make Our abode with him.

23 Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him.

23 Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.

24 The one who doesn’t love Me will not keep My words. The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me.(AM)

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

24 He who does not love Me (AP)does not keep My words; and (AQ)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

24 The one who doesn't love me doesn't keep my words. The words that you're hearing me say are not mine, but come from the Father who sent me.

24 One who does not [really] love Me does not keep My words. And the word (teaching) which you hear is not Mine, but is the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.

25 "I have told you this while I am still with you.

25 “I have told you these things while I am still with you.

26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit(AN)—the Father will send(AO) Him in My name—will teach you all things(AP) and remind you of everything I have told you.(AQ)

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

26 But the (d)Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.(B)

Jesus' Gift Of Peace

27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.(AR)

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

27 (AV)Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. (AW)Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

27 I'm leaving you at peace. I'm giving you my own peace. I'm not giving it to you as the world gives. So don't let your hearts be troubled, and don't be afraid.

27 Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]

28 You have heard Me tell you, ‘I am going away(AS) and I am coming to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father,(AT) because the Father is greater than I.(AU)

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

28 (AX)You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and (AY)I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because (AZ)I go to the Father, for (BA)the Father is greater than I.

28 You have heard me tell you, "I'm going away, but I'm coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I'm going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

28 You heard Me tell you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you [really] loved Me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going [back] to the Father, for (e)the Father is greater than I.

29 I have told you now before it happens(AV) so that when it does happen you may believe.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

29 Now (BB)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

29 I've told you this now, before I leave, so that when I do leave, you will believe.

29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does take place, you may believe and have faith [in Me].

30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world(AW) is coming. He has no power over Me.(j)(AX)

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

30 I will not speak much more with you, for (BC)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;

30 I won't talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me.

30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan) is coming. And he has no claim on Me [no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me];

31 On the contrary, I am going away(k) so that the world may know that I love the Father. Just as the Father commanded Me, so I do.“Get up; let’s leave this place.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, (d)I do exactly as (BD)the Father commanded Me. Get up, (BE)let us go from here.

31 But I'm doing what the Father has commanded me, to let the world know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us leave this place."

31 but so that the world may know [without any doubt] that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father has commanded Me [and act in full agreement with Him]. Get up, let us go from here.
