But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

Now it was the Governor's custom, during the Passover, to release to the people any one prisoner whom they selected.

Now at the time of the feast it was customary to release to them a prisoner, whatever one they asked for.

"Now he had to release to them at the feast one prisoner."

So Pilate went into the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus. "Are you the King of the Jews?" he said.
