16 This is why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He persisted in doing such things on the Sabbath. 17 Then He answered them, "My Father is still working, and so am I." 18 It was on account of this that the Jews tried all the harder to put Him to death, because He not only persisted in breaking the Sabbath, but also kept on saying that God was His Father, and so was making Himself equal to God.
