Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

They did not understand he was speaking to them about the Father;

here am I, come in the name of my Father, and you will not accept me: let someone else come in his own name, and you will accept him!

anyone who chooses to do his will, shall understand whether my teaching comes from God or whether I am talking on my own authority.

This was why they could not believe; for Isaiah again said,

no one understands, no one seeks for God.

Now many of his disciples, on hearing it, said, "This is hard to take in! Who can listen to talk like this?"

Stiff-necked, uncircumcised in heart and ear, you are always resisting the holy Spirit! As with your fathers, so with you!

For the interests of the flesh are hostile to God; they do not yield to the law of God (indeed they cannot).

Why do you not see that I was not speaking to you about bread? No, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

For I was hungry but you never fed me, I was thirsty but you never gave me drink,
