And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely
take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here.”
the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones from here with you.”
From there they were removed to
Shechem and laid in the tomb which Abraham had purchased for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones.
He bought the piece of land where he had pitched his tent from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
I give you one
portion more than your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”
