Israel's Rebellion And Repentance

6 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.

6 Then the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, (C)served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, (D)the gods of the sons of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; thus (E)they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him.

6 Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.(B) They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines.(C) They abandoned Yahweh and did not worship Him.(D)

6 Later on, the Israelis again practiced what the LORD considered to be evil by serving the Baals, the stars, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the descendants of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. In doing so, they ignored the LORD and wouldn't serve him.

6 Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; they served the Baals, the Ashtaroth (female deities), the gods of Aram (Syria), the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not serve Him.

7 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

7 The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He (F)sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the sons of Ammon.

7 So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He sold them to(c) the Philistines and the Ammonites.

7 In his burning anger against Israel, he sold them into domination by the Philistines and the Ammonites,

7 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites,

8 And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

8 They (c)afflicted and crushed the sons of Israel (d)that year; for eighteen years they afflicted all the sons of Israel who were beyond the Jordan (e)in Gilead in the land of the Amorites.

8 They shattered and crushed the Israelites that year, and for 18 years they did the same to all the Israelites who were on the other side of the Jordan(E) in the land of the Amorites(F) in Gilead.

8 who trampled and troubled the Israelis during that year eighteen years for the Israelis who lived east of the Jordan River in Gilead, the land occupied by the Amorites.

8 and they oppressed and crushed Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

9 Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

9 The sons of Ammon crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was greatly distressed.

10 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

10 Then the (G)sons of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You, for indeed, we have forsaken our God and served the Baals.”

10 so they cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You.(G) We have abandoned our God and worshiped the Baals.”

10 Then the Israelis cried out to the LORD and told him, "We have sinned against you because we have abandoned our God to serve the Baals."

10 Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord [for help], saying, “We have sinned against You, because we have abandoned (rejected) our God and have served the Baals.”

11 And the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

11 The Lord said to the sons of Israel, “Did I not deliver you (H)from the Egyptians, (I)the Amorites, (J)the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines?

11 The Lord said to the Israelites, “When the Egyptians,(H) Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,

11 The LORD replied to the Israelis, "Aren't you away from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, and the Philistines?

11 The Lord said to the Israelites, “Did I not rescue you from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, and the Philistines?

12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.

12 Also when the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites (K)oppressed you, you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hands.

12 Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites(d)(I) oppressed you, and you cried out to Me, did I not deliver you from their power?

12 And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites harassed you, you cried out to me, and I delivered you from under their domination.

12 Also when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites oppressed and crushed you, you cried out to Me, and I rescued you from their hands.

13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.

13 Yet (L)you have forsaken Me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer deliver you.

13 But you have abandoned Me and worshiped other gods. Therefore, I will not deliver you again.

13 But you have abandoned me and served other gods. Therefore I will no longer be delivering you.

13 Yet you have abandoned (rejected) Me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer rescue you.

14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

14 (M)Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress.”

14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen.(J) Let them deliver you in the time of your oppression.”

14 Go and cry out to the gods that you have chosen for yourselves. Let them deliver you in your time of trouble."

14 Go, cry out to the gods you have chosen; let them rescue you in your time of distress.”

15 And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.

15 The sons of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned, (N)do to us whatever seems good to You; only please deliver us this day.”

15 But the Israelites said, “We have sinned. Deal with us as You see fit;(e) only deliver us(K) today!”

15 The Israelis replied to the LORD, "We have sinned, so do to us anything that's right to do in your opinion, just please deliver us right now."

15 The Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned, do to us whatever seems good to You; only please rescue us this day.”

16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

16 (O)So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and (f)(P)He could bear the misery of Israel no longer.

16 So they got rid of the foreign gods(L) among them and worshiped the Lord,(M) and He became weary(N) of Israel’s misery.

16 When they put away their foreign gods and served the LORD, he brought Israel's misery to an end.

16 So they removed the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and He could bear the misery of Israel no longer.

17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.

17 Then the sons of Ammon were summoned and they camped in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together and camped in (Q)Mizpah.
