then they would say to him, “Say now, ‘Shibboleth.’” But he said, “Sibboleth,” for he could not pronounce it correctly. Then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. Thus there fell at that time 42,000 of Ephraim.

I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.

May the flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the pit shut its mouth on me.

The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.

A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city,
And contentions are like the bars of a citadel.

Words from the mouth of a wise man are gracious, while the lips of a fool consume him;

In that day the Lord will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt, and you will be gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel.

And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand.

A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Surely you too are one of them; for even the way you talk gives you away.”

But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too.”

But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
