The Sin Offering

1 And the Lord said to Moses,

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:

1 The LORD told Moses,

2 Say to the children of Israel: These are the offerings of anyone who does wrong through error, doing any of the things which by the Lord's order are not to be done:

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:

2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a person sins (A)unintentionally in any of the (a)things which the Lord has (B)commanded not to be done, and commits any of them,

2 “Tell the Israelites: When someone sins unintentionally(A) against any of the Lord’s commands and does anything prohibited by them—

2 "Speak to the Israelis and tell them that if a person inadvertently sins with respect to any of the LORD's commands that should not be violated, but nevertheless he disobeys one of them,

For The Priest

3 If the chief priest by doing wrong becomes a cause of sin to the people, then let him give to the Lord for the sin which he has done, an ox, without any mark, for a sin-offering.

3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.

3 (C)if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the Lord a (b)bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has (c)committed.

3 “If the anointed priest(a)(B) sins, bringing guilt(C) on the people, he is to present to the Lord a young, unblemished(D) bull as a sin(b) offering(E) for the sin he has committed.

3 or if the anointed priest sins, thereby bringing guilt on the people, let him bring a young bull without defect as a sin offering to the LORD for his sin that he had committed.

4 And he is to take the ox to the door of the Tent of meeting before the Lord; and put his hand on its head and put it to death before the Lord.

4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD; and shall lay his hand upon the bullock's head, and kill the bullock before the LORD.

4 He shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the Lord, and (D)he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull and slay the bull before the Lord.

4 He must bring the bull to the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and slaughter it before the Lord.

4 "He is to bring the bull to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, into the LORD's presence, where he is to lay his hand on the head of the bull and slaughter it in the LORD's presence.

5 And the chief priest is to take some of its blood and take it to the Tent of meeting;

5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock's blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation:

5 Then the (E)anointed priest is to take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the tent of meeting,

5 The anointed priest must then take some of the bull’s blood and bring it into the tent of meeting.

5 The anointed priest is to take blood from the bull to the Tent of Meeting.

6 And the priest is to put his finger in the blood, shaking drops of it before the Lord seven times, in front of the veil of the holy place.

6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the vail of the sanctuary.

6 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the Lord, in front of (F)the veil of the sanctuary.

6 The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times(F) before the Lord in front of the veil(G) of the sanctuary.(H)

6 The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times in the LORD's presence in front of the curtain of the sanctuary.

7 And the priest is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar on which perfume is burned before the Lord in the Tent of meeting, draining out all the rest of the blood of the ox at the base of the altar of burned offering which is at the door of the Tent of meeting.

7 And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 The priest shall also put some of the blood on the horns of (G)the altar of fragrant incense which is before the Lord in the tent of meeting; and all the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

7 The priest must apply some of the blood to the horns of the altar of fragrant incense(I) that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. He must pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering(J) that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

7 "The priest is then to put some blood on the horn of the altar that is near the Tent of Meeting as an incense of pleasing aroma in the LORD's presence. He is to pour the rest of the bull's blood for a burnt offering at the base of the altar that is at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

8 And he is to take away all the fat of the ox of the sin-offering; the fat covering the inside parts and all the fat of the inside parts,

8 And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,

8 (H)He shall remove from it all the fat of the bull of the sin offering: the fat that covers the entrails, and all the fat which is on the entrails,

8 He is to remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering: the fat surrounding the entrails, all the fat that is on the entrails,

8 Then he is to remove all the fat from the bull for a sin offering that is, the fat that covers the internal organs, all of the fat that is inside the internal organs,

9 And the two kidneys, with the fat on them, which is by the top part of the legs, and the fat joining the liver and the kidneys, he is to take away,

9 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away,

9 and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the (d)lobe of the liver, which he shall remove (I)with the kidneys

9 and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins. He will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys,

9 the two kidneys with the fat on them by the loins, and the fatty mass surrounding the liver and kidneys

10 As it is taken from the ox of the peace-offering; and it is to be burned by the priest on the altar of burned offerings.

10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt offering.

10 (just as it is removed from the ox of the sacrifice of peace offerings), and the priest is to offer them up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering.

10 just as the fat is removed from the ox of the fellowship sacrifice.(K) The priest is to burn them on the altar of burnt offering.

10 just as it is taken from the bull for a peace offering. Then the priest is to burn it on the altar for burnt offerings.

11 And the skin of the ox and all its flesh, with its head and its legs and its inside parts and its waste,

11 And the skin of the bullock, and all his flesh, with his head, and with his legs, and his inwards, and his dung,

11 But (J)the hide of the bull and all its flesh with its head and its legs and its entrails and its refuse,

11 But the hide(L) of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and shanks, and its entrails and dung—

11 "Now as for the bull's hide, its flesh, its head, its legs, its internal organs, and its dung,

12 All the ox, he is to take away outside the circle of the tents into a clean place where the burned waste is put, and there it is to be burned on wood with fire.

12 Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth without the camp unto a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn him on the wood with fire: where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt.

12 (e)that is, all the rest of the bull, he is to bring out to (K)a clean place outside the camp where the (f)ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood with fire; where the (g)ashes are poured out it shall be burned.

12 all the rest of the bull—he must bring to a ceremonially clean place(M) outside the camp(N) to the ash heap, and must burn it on a wood fire. It is to be burned at the ash heap.

12 along with the rest of the bull, he is to bring it outside the camp to a clean place, where fat ashes are to be poured over it and then it is to be thoroughly burned over wood with fire. It is to be burned where the fat ashes are poured out."

For The Whole Congregation

13 And if all the people of Israel do wrong, without anyone's knowledge; if they have done any of the things which by the Lord's order are not to be done, causing sin to come on them;

13 And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty;

13 (L)Now if the whole congregation of Israel commits error and the matter (h)escapes the notice of the assembly, and they commit any of the (i)things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and they become guilty;

13 “Now if the whole community of Israel(O) errs,(P) and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly,(Q) so that they violate any of the Lord’s commands and incur guilt(R) by doing what is prohibited,

13 "If the whole congregation of Israel goes astray, and if the sin is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and if they go astray from one of the LORD's commands that should not be violated, then they will stand guilty.

14 When the sin which they have done comes to light, then let all the people give an ox for a sin-offering, and take it before the Tent of meeting.

14 When the sin, which they have sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation.

14 (M)when the sin (j)which they have (k)committed becomes known, then the assembly shall offer (N)a (l)bull of the herd for a sin offering and bring it before the tent of meeting.

14 then the assembly must present a young bull as a sin offering. When the sin they have committed in regard to the command becomes known, they are to bring it before the tent of meeting.

14 When the sin that they have committed becomes known, the entire congregation is to bring a young bull as a sin offering to the Tent of Meeting,

15 And let the chiefs of the people put their hands on its head before the Lord, and put the ox to death before the Lord.

15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD: and the bullock shall be killed before the LORD.

15 Then (O)the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the Lord, and the bull shall be slain (P)before the Lord.

15 The elders(S) of the community are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the Lord and it is to be slaughtered before the Lord.

15 where the elders of the community are to lay their hands on the head of the bull in the LORD's presence and slaughter it.

16 And the priest is to take some of its blood to the Tent of meeting;

16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullock's blood to the tabernacle of the congregation:

16 Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the blood of the bull to the tent of meeting;

16 The anointed priest will bring some of the bull’s blood into the tent of meeting.

16 The anointed priest is to take blood from the bull and bring it to the Tent of Meeting.

17 And put his finger in the blood, shaking drops of the blood seven times before the Lord in front of the veil.

17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, even before the vail.

17 and (Q)the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord, in front of the veil.

17 The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord in front of the veil.

17 Then the priest is to dip his finger in the blood, sprinkle some of the blood seven times in front of the curtain in the LORD's presence,

18 And he is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar which is before the Lord in the Tent of meeting; and all the rest of the blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar of burned offering at the door of the Tent of meeting.

18 And he shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD, that is in the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall pour out all the blood at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

18 He shall put some of the blood on the horns of (R)the altar which is before the Lord (m)in the tent of meeting; and all the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

18 He is to apply some of the blood to the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. He must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

18 then put blood on the horn of the altar near the Tent of Meeting in the LORD's presence. He is to pour the rest of the blood as a burnt offering at the base of the altar that is at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

19 And he is to take off all its fat, burning it on the altar.

19 And he shall take all his fat from him, and burn it upon the altar.

19 (S)He shall remove all its fat from it and offer it up in smoke on the altar.

19 He is to remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar.

19 Then he is to remove all the fat from the bull for a sin offering and burn it on the altar.

20 Let him do with the ox as he did with the ox of the sin-offering; and the priest will take away their sin and they will have forgiveness.

20 And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin offering, so shall he do with this: and the priest shall make an atonement for them, and it shall be forgiven them.

20 He shall also do with the bull just as he did with (T)the bull of the sin offering; thus he shall do with it. So (U)the priest shall make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven.

20 He is to offer this bull just as he did with the bull in the sin offering; he will offer it the same way. So the priest will make atonement(T) on their behalf, and they will be forgiven.(U)

20 He is to do to this bull what he did to the bull for the sin offering. He is to do it this way so that the priest will make atonement for them and they will be forgiven.

21 Then let the ox be taken away outside the tent-circle, that it may be burned as the other ox was burned; it is the sin-offering for all the people.

21 And he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp, and burn him as he burned the first bullock: it is a sin offering for the congregation.

21 Then he is to bring out the bull to a place outside the camp and burn it as he burned the first bull; it is (V)the sin offering for the assembly.

21 Then he will bring the bull outside the camp(V) and burn it just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly.

21 Then he is to bring the rest of the bull outside the camp and burn it just as he had burned the first bull. This is the sin offering for the congregation."

For The Leader

22 If a ruler does wrong, and in error does any of the things which, by the order of the Lord his God, are not to be done, causing sin to come on him;

22 When a ruler hath sinned, and done somewhat through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD his God concerning things which should not be done, and is guilty;

22 ‘When (W)a leader (X)sins and unintentionally does any one of all the (n)things which the Lord his God has commanded not to be done, and he becomes guilty,

22 “When a leader(c)(W) sins and unintentionally violates any of the commands of the Lord his God by doing what is prohibited, and incurs guilt,

22 "When a ruler inadvertently sins, disobeying any one of the commands of the LORD his God that should not be violated, he will be guilty.

23 When the sin which he has done is made clear to him, let him give for his offering a goat, a male without any mark.

23 Or if his sin, wherein he hath sinned, come to his knowledge; he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a male without blemish:

23 (o)(Y)if his sin (p)which he has committed is made known to him, he shall bring for his offering a (q)(Z)goat, (AA)a male without defect.

23 or someone informs him about the sin he has committed, he is to bring an unblemished male goat(X) as his offering.

23 When the sin that he had committed is disclosed to him, he is to bring his offering: a male goat without defect.

24 And he is to put his hand on the head of the goat and put it to death in the place where they put to death the burned offering before the Lord: it is a sin-offering.

24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD: it is a sin offering.

24 He shall lay his hand on the head of the male goat and slay it in the place where (r)they slay the burnt offering before the Lord; it is a sin offering.

24 He is to lay his hand on the head of the goat and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering(Y) is slaughtered before the Lord. It is a sin offering.(Z)

24 He is then to lay his hand on the head of the goat and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered in the LORD's presence as a sin offering.

25 And the priest is to take some of the blood of the offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burned offering, draining out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burned offering.

25 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out his blood at the bottom of the altar of burnt offering.

25 Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on (AB)the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering.

25 Then the priest must take some of the blood from the sin offering with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering.(AA) The rest of its blood he must pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering.

25 Then the priest is to take blood from the sin offering with his finger, put it on the horn of the altar that is used for burnt offerings, and then pour the rest of the blood at the base of the altar that is used for burnt offerings.

26 And all the fat of it is to be burned on the altar like the fat of the peace-offering; and the priest will take away his sin and he will have forgiveness.

26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.

26 (AC)All its fat he shall offer up in smoke on the altar as in the case of the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings. Thus (AD)the priest shall make atonement for him in regard to his sin, and he will be forgiven.

26 He must burn all its fat on the altar, like the fat of the fellowship sacrifice. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for that person’s sin, and he will be forgiven.

26 He is to burn all the fat on the altar as is done for the fat for the sacrifice of a peace offering. This is how the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin. It will be forgiven him."

For The Common Person

27 And if any one of the common people does wrong in error, doing any of the things which the Lord has given orders are not to be done, causing sin to come on him;

27 And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and be guilty;

27 ‘Now if (s)anyone of (t)the common people sins (AE)unintentionally in doing any of the (u)things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, and becomes guilty,

27 “Now if any of the common people(d) sins unintentionally by violating one of the Lord’s commands, does what is prohibited, and incurs guilt,

27 "If any of the common people of the land inadvertently sins by disobeying one of the LORD's commands that should not be violated, he will be guilty.

28 When the sin which he has done is made clear to him, then he is to give for his offering a goat, a female without any mark, for the sin which he has done.

28 Or if his sin, which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath sinned.

28 (v)(AF)if his sin which he has (w)committed is made known to him, then he shall bring for his offering a (x)(AG)goat, a (AH)female without defect, for his sin which he has (y)committed.

28 or if someone informs him about the sin he has committed, then he is to bring an unblemished female goat as his offering for the sin that he has committed.

28 When the sin that he committed is disclosed to him, he is to bring his offering for his sin that he had committed: a female goat without defect.

29 And he is to put his hand on the head of the sin-offering and put it to death in the place where they put to death the burned offering.

29 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering.

29 (AI)He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and (AJ)slay the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering.

29 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering.

29 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place for burnt offering.

30 And the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burned offering, and all the rest of its blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar.

30 And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the altar.

30 The priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of (AK)the altar of burnt offering; and (AL)all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar.

30 Then the priest must take some of its blood with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering. He must pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar.

30 Then the priest is to take blood with his finger, put it on the horn of the altar that is used for burnt offerings, and then pour the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.

31 And let all its fat be taken away, as the fat is taken away from the peace-offerings, and let it be burned on the altar by the priest for a sweet smell to the Lord; and the priest will take away his sin and he will have forgiveness.

31 And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.

31 (AM)Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar for (AN)a soothing aroma to the Lord. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, (z)and he will be forgiven.

31 He is to remove all its fat just as the fat is removed from the fellowship sacrifice. The priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf, and he will be forgiven.

31 He is to remove all the fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice for the peace offering. Then the priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. This is how the priest will make atonement for him. It will be forgiven him.
