to whom he answered, how does the law run in that case? what do you find?

and he said to him, why do you stile me good? there is but one that is good, that is God. but if you would enter into life, keep the commandments.

Jesus said to him, why do you call me good? there is but one, who is good, that is God.

for by the observation of the law no one shall be justified in his sight, since it is the law that takes cognizance of sin.

Do we then conclude, that the law is the cause of sin? by no means; but I should not have had such a notion of sin, had it not been for the law: for I should not have known concupiscence was a sin, unless the law had said, "thou shalt not covet."

loves others hath fulfilled the law. for this, "thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not covet;" and whatever social precept there be, it is reduced to this single head,

but they that rest themselves upon the works of the law, are obnoxious to the curse: for it is written, " cursed is every one, who continueth not in all things, which are written in the book of the law, to do them:"

the first commandment with a promise annexed, is, "honour thy father and mother,

children, obey your parents upon all occasions, for that is graceful in a christian.

If, agreeably to the scriptures, you observe that royal law, "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self," you do well.
