But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

"Therefore said the wisdom of God: I will send them prophets and apostles, and of them they shall slay and persecute:
"Behold, I send you forth as sheep among wolves: Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.
the remnant took his servants, and intreated them ungoodly, and slew them.
"Wherefore, Behold, I send unto you prophets, wise men, and scribes. And of them: some shall ye kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;
Then shall they put you to trouble, and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake:
But take ye heed to yourselves. For they shall bring you up to the councils, and into the synagogues, and ye shall be beaten, and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings, for my sake, for a testimonial unto them.
Remember the saying, that I said unto you, 'The servant is not greater than the Lord.' If they have persecuted me, so will they persecute you. If they have kept my saying, so will they keep yours.
They shall excommunicate you: yea the time shall come, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth God true service.
And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold until the next day. For it was now eventide.
Then the chief priest rose up, and all they that were with him: which is the sect of the Sadducees: and were full of indignation,
and they moved the people, and the elders, and the scribes: and they came upon him and caught him, and brought him to the council,
Then they gave a shout with a loud voice, and stopped their ears and all ran upon him at once,
But Saul made havoc of the congregation, entering into every house: and drew out both man and woman, and thrust them into prison.
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?"
In that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the congregation.
And the people ran on them, and the officers rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with rods,
And all the city was moved, and the people swarmed together. And they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple, and forthwith the doors were shut to.
On the morrow he loosed him from his bonds, desiring to know the certainty for what cause he was accused of the Jews, and commanded the high priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul, and set him before them.
After five days, Ananias the high priest descended, with elders and with a certain orator named Tertullus, and informed the ruler of Paul.
When Festus was come into the province, after three days, he ascended from Caesarea unto Jerusalem.
"I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because I shall answer this day before thee of all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews,
which as they killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, even so have they persecuted us, and God they please not, and are contrary to all men:
Dearly beloved, be not troubled in this heat, which now is come among you to try you, as though some strange thing had happened unto you:
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil shall cast of you into prison, to tempt you, and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be faithful unto the death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
