And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

They began to accuse him, "We found this man corrupting our nation, forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that he is the Messiah, a king."

Now there was a man in prison named Barabbas. He had been with the insurgents who had committed murder during the rebellion.

At this, they shouted out again, "Not this fellow, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a revolutionary.

"Now, here is the king you have chosen, the one whom you asked for. See, the Lord has appointed a king over you.

At every festival, Pilate would release any one prisoner whom the people requested.

You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you,

Then he released Barabbas for them, but he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.

So Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them, but he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.

Rescue those who are being led away to death, and save those who stumble toward slaughter.
