And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

This he said, then added, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; I am going to waken him."

but Paul went downstairs, threw himself upon him, and embraced him. "Do not lament," he said, "the life is still in him."

That is why many of you are ill and infirm, and a number even dead.

We would like you, brothers, to understand about those who are asleep in death. You must not grieve for them, like the rest of men who have no hope.

who died for us that waking in life or sleeping in death we should live together with him.
