Matthew 4

² When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.

² And after He had ^(C)fasted forty days and forty nights, He ^(a)then became hungry.

² After He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights,^(C) He was hungry.

² After fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, he finally became hungry.

⁴ But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"

⁴ But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘^(F)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

⁴ But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.”^(E)(a)

⁴ But he answered, "It is written, "One must not live on bread alone, but on every word coming out of the mouth of God.'"

⁶ and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you.' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"

⁶ and *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,‘^(H)He will command His angels concerning You’;and‘On their hands they will bear You up,So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

⁶ And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

⁶ and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:He will give His angels^(G) orders concerning you,and they will support you with their handsso that you will not strikeyour foot against a stone.”^(H)(c)

⁶ He told Jesus, "Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written, "God will put his angels in charge of you,' and, "With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.'"

⁸ Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.

^{8 (J)}Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.'"

¹⁰ Then Jesus *said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘^(L)You shall worship the Lord your God, and ^(d)serve Him only.’”

¹⁰ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

¹⁰ Then Jesus told him, “Go away,^(f) Satan! For it is written:Worship the Lord your God,and serve only^(J) Him.”^(g)

¹⁰ Then Jesus told him, "Go away, Satan! Because it is written, "You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"

¹² Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.

¹⁴ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

¹⁴ in order to fulfill what was declared by the prophet Isaiah when he said,

¹⁶ the people who sat in darkness saw a great light, to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to them light has dawned."

¹⁶ “^(R)The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light,And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death,Upon them a Light dawned.”

¹⁶ The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

¹⁶ The people who live in darknesshave seen a great light,and for those living in the shadowland of death,light has dawned.^(h)(O)(i)

¹⁶ The people living in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the land and shadow of death, a light has risen."

¹⁸ Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

²⁴ And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

²⁴ Then the news about Him spread throughout Syria.^(U) So they brought to Him all those who were afflicted, those suffering from various diseases and intense pains, the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and the paralytics.^(V) And He healed them.

²⁴ His fame spread throughout Syria, and people brought to him everyone who was sick those afflicted with various diseases and pains, the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and the paralyzed and he healed them.
