Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil. 2 And having fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards hungry. 3 And the tempter coming to him said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him with him into the holy city, and setteth him on the battlement of the temple, 6 And saith to him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall charge his angels concerning thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Again the devil taketh him with him to an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, And saith to him, 9 All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then Jesus saith to him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
But when Jesus heard, that John was cast into prison, he retired into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt at Capernaum, which is on the sea coast, in the borders of Zebulon and Naphthali: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, 14 saying, The land of Zebulon and the land of Naphthali,
by the way of the sea, 16 beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, The people who walked in darkness, saw a great light, and to them who sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up.
From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. 19 And he saith to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And straitway leaving the nets they followed him.
And going on from thence, he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a vessel with Zebedee their father mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And leaving the vessel and their father, they immediately followed him.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease, and all manner of malady among the people. 24 And his fame went thro' all Syria; and they brought to him all sick people, that were seized with divers diseases and tormenting pains; even demoniacs, and lunaticks, and paralytics; and he healed them. 25 And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis, and Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond Jordan.
