1 Kings 18:26
Then they took the ox which
was given them and they prepared it and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon saying, “O Baal, answer us.” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the altar which they made.
Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few.
But when they recognized that he was a Jew, a single outcry arose from them all as they shouted for about two hours, “Great is
Artemis of the Ephesians!”
And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying,
“My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”
1 Kings 8:26
Now therefore, O God of Israel, let Your word, I pray, be confirmed
which You have spoken to Your servant, my father David.
O my God,
incline Your ear and hear! Open Your eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our supplications before You on account of any merits of our own, but on account of Your great compassion.
For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
