The Pharisees and Sadducees [i.e., these were strict sects of the Jewish religion], came out and began disputing with Jesus, asking for a [supernatural] sign from Him, [in an attempt] to test Him.

But Peter and the apostles responding said, It behooves us to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you have slain, hanging him on the wood; Him hath God exalted at His own right hand, a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance and remission of sins to Israel. And we are witnesses of these words, and the Holy Ghost, whom God has given to those who obey him. And hearing, they were cut through and were minded to kill them.


And Jesus said to them; See and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, That it is because we did not take bread. And Jesus knowing said to them, Why do you reason among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because you did not take bread? read more.
Do you not yet understand? do you not remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
