¹⁷ And Mattaniah, the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, who had to give the first note of the song of praise in prayer, and Bakbukiah, the second among his brothers, and Abda, the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. ¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were 284. ¹⁹ In addition the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers who kept watch at the gates, were a hundred and seventy-two.

Nehemiah 11:1

The rulers of the people lived in Jerusalem. One out of every ten people was selected by chance to live in Jerusalem, the holy town. The other nine were to go to the other towns.
