Laws Of Inheritance

1 And the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Heber the son of Gilead, the son of Machir the son of Manasseh, of the kindreds of Manasseh the son of Joseph - whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah -

1 Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

1 Then (A)the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came near; and these are (B)the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.

1 The daughters of Zelophehad approached; Zelophehad was the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh from the clans of Manasseh, the son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

1 Now the daughters of Hepher's son Zelophehad, Gilead's grandson, who had been fathered by Machir, who had been fathered by Manasseh, from the tribe of Manasseh, the direct son of Joseph, were named Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached

2 came and stood before Moses and Eleazar the priest and before the lords and all the multitude in the door of the tabernacle of witness, saying,

2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,

2 They stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the doorway of the tent of meeting, saying,

2 They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the entire community at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said,

2 Moses, Eleazar the priest, the elders, and the entire community at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, stood before them, and said,

3 "Our father died in the wilderness, and was not among the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the congregation of Korah: But died in his own sin, and had no sons.

3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

3 “Our father (C)died in the wilderness, yet he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and (D)he had no sons.

3 “Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among Korah’s followers, who gathered together against the Lord.(A) Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.

3 "Our father died in the wilderness, but he wasn't with the company of those who gathered against the LORD along with the company of Korah. He died in his own sin, and he had no sons.

4 Wherefore should the name of our father's be taken away from among his kindred, because he had no son? Give unto us a possession among the brethren of our father."

4 Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.

4 Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.”

4 Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan? Since he had no son, give us property among our father’s brothers.”

4 Why are you going to eliminate the name of our father from his family, just because he had no son? Give us a possession from among our father's relatives."

5 And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

5 And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

5 (E)So Moses brought their case before the Lord.

5 Moses brought their case before the Lord,

5 So Moses brought the family into the LORD's presence,

6 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

6 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

6 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

6 and the Lord answered him,

6 and the LORD told Moses,

7 "The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt give them a possession to inherit among their father's brethren, and shalt turn the inheritance of their father unto them.

7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.

7 (F)The daughters of Zelophehad are right in their statements. You shall surely give them a hereditary possession among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer the inheritance of their father to them.

7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters say is correct. You are to give them hereditary property among their father’s brothers and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.(B)

7 "The daughters of Zelophehad are telling the truth. You are certainly to give to them a possession for an inheritance among their father's relatives. You are to pass on the inheritance of their father to them.

8 And speak unto the children of Israel saying, 'If a man die and have no son, ye shall turn his inheritance unto his daughter.

8 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.

8 Further, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter.

8 Tell the Israelites: When a man dies without having a son, transfer his inheritance to his daughter.

8 Tell the Israelis that when a man dies without a son, you are to pass his inheritance to his daughter.

9 If he have no daughter, ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

9 And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

9 If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.

9 If he doesn't have a daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.

10 If he have no brethren, ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.

10 And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.

10 If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

10 If he doesn't have brothers, give his inheritance to his father's brothers.

11 If he have no father's brethren, ye shall give his inheritance unto him that is next to him of his kindred, and let him possess it. And this shall be unto the children of Israel an ordinance, and a law, as the LORD hath commanded Moses.'"

11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.

11 If his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative in his own family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be a (G)statutory ordinance to the sons of Israel, just as the Lord commanded Moses.’”

11 If his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative of his clan, and he will take possession of it. This is to be a statutory ordinance for the Israelites as the Lord commanded Moses.”

11 If his father doesn't have brothers, then give his inheritance to a relative who is nearest to him from the family and he'll take possession of it. This is to be a permanent ordinance for the Israelis, just as the LORD commanded Moses."

Leadership Change

12 And the LORD said unto Moses, "Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and behold, the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.

12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.

12 (H)Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up to this (I)mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel.

12 Then the Lord said to Moses,(C) “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range(a) and see the land that I have given the Israelites.

12 Then the LORD told Moses, "You are to climb these Abarim mountains and look over the land that I'm going to give the Israelis.

13 And when thou hast seen it, thou shalt be gathered unto thy people also; as Aaron thy brother was gathered unto his people.

13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.

13 When you have seen it, you too (J)will be gathered to your people, (K)as Aaron your brother (a)was;

13 After you have seen it, you will also be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.(D)

13 After you've seen it, you'll be taken to be with your people just as your brother Aaron was gathered to them,

14 For ye were disobedient unto my mouth in the desert of Zin in the strife of the congregation, that ye sanctified me not in the water before their eyes." That is the water of strife in Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin.

14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, (L)you rebelled against My (b)command (c)to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

14 When the community quarreled in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My holiness in their sight at the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah(b) of Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.(E)

14 because in the wilderness of Zin, when the community rebelled, you rebelled against my command to treat me as holy before their eyes in regards to the Meribah Springs in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin."

Joshua Succeeds Moses

15 And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying,

15 And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying,

15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying,

15 So Moses appealed to the Lord,

15 Moses responded to the LORD,

16 "Let the LORD, God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation;

16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,

16 (M)May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

16 “May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh,(F) appoint a man over the community

16 "May the LORD God of the spirits of all living creatures appoint a man over the community

17 which may go in and out before them, and to lead them in and out, that the congregation of the LORD be not as a flock of sheep without a shepherd."

17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

17 who (N)will go out (d)and come in before them, and who will lead them out and (e)bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be (O)like sheep which have no shepherd.”

17 who will go out before them and come back in before them,(G) and who will bring them out and bring them in, so that the Lord’s community won’t be like sheep without a shepherd.”(H)

17 who will go in and out before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in so that the LORD'S community won't be like a flock without a shepherd."

18 And the LORD said unto Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun in whom there is spirit, and put thine hands upon him,

18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;

18 So the Lord said to Moses, “(f)Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man (P)in whom is the Spirit, and (Q)lay your hand on him;

18 The Lord replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.(I)

18 "Select Nun's son Joshua. The Spirit is in that man," the LORD answered Moses. "You are to lay your hand on him

19 and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their sight.

19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.

19 and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and (R)commission him in their sight.

19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole community, and commission(J) him in their sight.

19 and make him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the entire community. Then you are to set him in charge right before their eyes,

20 And put of thy praise upon him that all the company of the children of Israel may hear.

20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.

20 You shall put some of your (g)authority on him, in order that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may obey him.

20 Confer some of your authority on him so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.

20 turning over your authority to him so that the entire community of Israel knows to obey him.

21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest which shall ask counsel for him, after the manner of the light, before the LORD: And at the mouth of Eleazar shall both he and all the children of Israel with him, and all the congregation, go in and out."

21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

21 Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him (S)by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his (h)command they shall go out and at his (i)command they shall come in, both he and the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”

21 He will stand before Eleazar who will consult the Lord for him with the decision of the Urim.(K) He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command.”

21 You are to make him stand in the presence of Eleazar the priest, who is to inquire on his behalf using the Urim in the presence of the LORD regarding a decision of judgment, because by his command he and all the Israelis with him will go out or come in."

22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation,

22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

22 Moses did just as the Lord commanded him; and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.

22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire community,

22 So Moses did what the LORD had commanded him. He took Joshua, made him stand in the presence of Eleazar the priest and the entire community,

23 and put his hands upon him and give him a charge, as the LORD commanded through the hand of Moses.

23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

23 Then he laid his hands on him and (T)commissioned him, just as the Lord had spoken (j)through Moses.

23 laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the Lord had spoken through Moses.

23 laid his hands on him, and charged him, just as the LORD had commanded, using Moses' authority.
