except that in town after town the Holy Spirit assures me that imprisonment and suffering are waiting for me.

He came to us, took Paul's belt, and tied his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, "The Holy Spirit says, "This is how the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will tie up the man who owns this belt. Then they will hand him over to the gentiles.'"

Paul replied, "Whether quickly or not, I wish to God that not only you but everyone listening to me today would become what I am except for these chains!"

Three days later, Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. When they assembled, he told them, "Brothers, although I haven't done anything against our people or the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

For this reason I, Paul, am the prisoner of the Messiah Jesus for the sake of you gentiles.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to live in a way that is worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

for whose sake I am an ambassador in chains, desiring to declare the gospel as boldly as I should.

At the same time also pray for us that God would open before us a door for the word so that we may tell the secret about the Messiah, for which I have been imprisoned.

Dear friends, do not be surprised by the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

All the saints, especially those of the emperor's household, greet you.

From you the word of the Lord has spread out not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place where your faith in God has become known. As a result, we do not need to say anything about it.
