1 A wise son heeds his father's instruction (discipline). A scoffer does not listen to discipline (reproof).
3 He who keeps his mouth (watches what he says) keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips (speaks thoughtlessly) will have destruction.
7 There is one who claims to be rich, yet has nothing. There is one who claims to be poor, yet has great riches.
13 The one who despises the word will experience bad consequences (be destroyed). He who respects the commandment will be rewarded.
18 Poverty and shame come to all who reject discipline. He who accepts reproof will be honored.
19 Desire accomplished is sweetness to life. It is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. The wealth of the sinner is preserved for the righteous.
23 Abundant foods is in the fallow ground of the poor. There is waste because of a lack of justice.
24 He who spares the rod (authority) hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines (instructs) him promptly.
