I was a father to the needy! I championed the cause of the stranger.

If I have rejected the cause of my male or female slaves, when they brought a complaint against me

I will rejoice and be glad because of your loving-kindness (mercy). You have seen my misery. You have known my troubles.

([Psalm of David]) Blessed (happy) is the one who has concern for helpless people. Jehovah will rescue (save) him in times of trouble.

Brothers, if someone is caught in any kind of wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should set him right. But you must do it in a gentle way. And keep an eye on yourselves, so that you will not be tempted, too.

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry, but will not be heard.

David's men went to Nabal and gave him David's message. They waited for Nabal's answer.

They grow big and fat. Their evil deeds have no limits. They have no respect for the rights of others. They have no respect for the rights of orphans. But they still prosper. They do not defend the rights of the poor.

Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

People in you hate their fathers and mothers. They oppress foreigners in you. They oppress orphans and widows in you.'

I said: Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not your responsibility to know justice?
