                                    1 Lord,(a)(b) why do You stand so far away?(A)Why do You hide in times of trouble?(B)                                

                                    1 Why (A)do You stand afar off, O Lord?Why (B)do You hide (a)Yourself in times of trouble?                                

                                    1 Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?                                

                                    1 Why do you stand far away, LORD? Why do you hide in times of distress?                                

                                    1 Why do You stand far away, O Lord?Why do You hide [Yourself, veiling Your eyes] in times of trouble?

                                    2 In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue the afflicted;let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.(C)                                

                                    2 In (C)pride the wicked (b)hotly pursue the afflicted;(c)Let them be (D)caught in the plots which they have devised.                                

                                    2 The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.                                

                                    2 The wicked one arrogantly pursues the afflicted, who are trapped in the schemes he devises.                                

                                    2 In pride and arrogance the wicked hotly pursue and persecute the afflicted;Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

                                    3 For the wicked (E)boasts of his (F)heart’s desire,And (d)the greedy man curses and (G)spurns the Lord.                                

                                    3 For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.                                

                                    3 For the wicked one boasts about his own desire; he blesses the greedy and despises the LORD.                                

                                    3 For the wicked boasts and sings the praises of his heart’s desire,And the greedy man curses and spurns [and even despises] the Lord.

                                    4 In all his scheming,the wicked arrogantly thinks:(d)“There is no accountability,since God does not exist.”(F)                                

                                    4 The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, (H)does not seek Him.All his (e)thoughts are, “(I)There is no God.”                                

                                    4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.                                

                                    4 With haughty arrogance, the wicked thinks, "God will not seek justice." He always presumes "There is no God."                                

                                    4 The wicked, in the haughtiness of his face, will not seek nor inquire for Him;All his thoughts are, “There is no God [so there is no accountability or punishment].”

                                    5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.                                

                                    5 Their ways always seem prosperous. Your judgments are on high, far away from them. They scoff at all their enemies.                                

                                    5 His ways prosper at all times;Your judgments [Lord] are on high, out of his sight [so he never thinks about them];As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

                                    6 They say to themselves, "We will not be moved throughout all time, and we will not experience adversity."                                

                                    6 He says to himself, “I will not be moved;For throughout all generations I will not be in adversity [for nothing bad will happen to me].”

                                    7 Cursing, deceit, and violence fill his mouth;trouble and malice are under his tongue.(I)                                

                                    7 His (N)mouth is full of curses and deceit and (O)oppression;(P)Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness.                                

                                    7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.                                

                                    7 Their mouth is full of curses, lies, and oppression, their tongues spread trouble and iniquity.                                

                                    7 His mouth is full of curses and deceit (fraud) and oppression;Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness [injustice and sin].

                                    8 He sits in the (Q)lurking places of the villages;In the hiding places he (R)kills the innocent;His eyes (h)stealthily watch for the (i)(S)unfortunate.                                

                                    8 He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.                                

                                    8 They wait in ambush in the villages, they kill the innocent in secret.                                

                                    8 He lurks in ambush in the villages;In hiding places he kills the innocent;He lies in wait for the unfortunate [the unhappy, the poor, the helpless].

                                    9 he lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket.He lurks in order to seize the afflicted;he seizes the afflicted and drags him in his net.                                

                                    9 He lurks in a hiding place as (T)a lion in his (j)lair;He (U)lurks to catch (V)the afflicted;He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his (W)net.                                

                                    9 He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.                                

                                    9 Their eyes secretly watch the helpless, lying in wait like a lion in his den. They lie in wait to catch the afflicted. They catch the afflicted when they pull him into their net.                                

                                    9 He lurks in a hiding place like a lion in his lair;He lies in wait to catch the afflicted;He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net.

                                    10 He (k)crouches, he (l)bows down,And the (m)unfortunate fall (n)by his mighty ones.                                

                                    10 He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.                                

                                    10 The victim is crushed, and he sinks down; the helpless fall by their might.                                

                                    10 He crushes [his prey] and crouches;And the unfortunate fall by his mighty claws.

                                    11 The wicked say to themselves, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."                                

                                    11 He says to himself, “God has [quite] forgotten;He has hidden His face; He will never see my deed.”

                                    12 Rise up, LORD! Raise your hand, God. Don't forget the afflicted!

                                    13 Why has the wicked person despised God?He says to himself, “You will not demand an account.”(P)                                

                                    13 Why has the wicked (AA)spurned God?He has said to himself, “You will not require it.”                                

                                    13 Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.                                

                                    13 Why do the wicked despise God and say to themselves, "God will not seek justice."?                                

                                    13 Why has the wicked spurned and shown disrespect to God?He has said to himself, “You will not require me to account.”

                                    14 But You Yourself have seen trouble and grief,observing it in order to take the matter into Your hands.(Q)The helpless entrusts himself to You;You are a helper of the fatherless.(R)                                

                                    14 You have seen it, for You have beheld (AB)mischief and vexation to (o)take it into Your hand.The (p)(AC)unfortunate commits himself to You;You have been the (AD)helper of the orphan.                                

                                    14 Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.                                

                                    14 But you do see! You take note of trouble and grief in order to take the matter into your own hand. The helpless one commits himself to you; you have been the orphan's helper.                                

                                    14 You have seen it, for You have noted mischief and vexation (irritation) to take it into Your hand.The unfortunate commits himself to You;You are the helper of the fatherless.

                                    18 To (s)vindicate the (AL)orphan and the (AM)oppressed,So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause (AN)terror.
