Do not worship them or serve them. I, Jehovah your God, am a God demanding exclusive devotion. (I do not tolerate rivals.) I will not share your affection with any other god. I punish children for their parents' sins to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.

Those who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins and the sins of their ancestors.

Ahaziah was related to King Ahab by marriage. He sinned against Jehovah as Ahab's family did.

When King Ahaziah of Judah saw this, he fled on the road leading to Beth Haggan. Jehu pursued him and ordered: Shoot him down in his chariot. They shot him at Gur Pass, near Ibleam. Ahaziah continued to flee until he got to Megiddo, where he died.

He came across the brothers of Ahaziah, king of Judah, and asked: Who are you? They replied: We are the brothers of Ahaziah, king of Judah. We are going down to see the children of the king and of the queen.

King Ahaziah's mother Athaliah learned of her son's murder. She gave orders for all the members of the royal family to be killed.

Ahaziah also followed the ways of Ahab's family, because his mother gave him advice that led him to sin.
