The Blessing Of The Lord
1 Unless Yahweh builds a house, its builders labor at it in vain. Unless Yahweh guards a city, a guard watches in vain.
1 {A Song of degrees for Solomon.} Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
1 A Song of Ascents, of Solomon.Unless the Lord (A)builds the house,They labor in vain who build it;Unless the Lord (B)guards the city,The watchman keeps awake in vain.
1 A Solomonic song of ascents.Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain;(A)unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain.(B)
1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor uselessly. Unless the LORD guards the city, its security forces keep watch uselessly.
2 [It is] in vain for you who rise early [and] sit late, eating the bread of anxious toil, [when] thus he provides for his beloved in [his] sleep.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,To (a)retire late,To (C)eat the bread of (b)painful labors; For He gives to His (D)beloved (E)even in his sleep.
2 In vain you get up early and stay up late, working hard to have enough food—yes, He gives sleep to the one He loves.(a)(C)
2 It is useless to get up early and to stay up late, eating the food of exhausting labor truly he gives sleep to those he loves.
5 Blessed [is] the man who fills his quiver with them. They shall not be put to shame when they speak with enemies at the gate.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
5 How (I)blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;(J)They will not be ashamedWhen they (K)speak with their enemies (L)in the gate.
5 Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them.(F)Such men will never be put to shamewhen they speak with their enemies at the city gate.(G)
5 How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be ashamed as they confront their enemies at the city gate. A Song of Ascents
