A Prayer For The King

1 {A Psalm for Solomon.} Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.

1 A Psalm of Solomon.Give the king (A)Your judgments, O God,And (B)Your righteousness to the king’s son.

1 Solomonic.(A)God, give Your justice to the kingand Your righteousness to the king’s son.(B)

1 God, endow the king with ability to render your justice, and the king's son to render your right decisions.

1 Give the king [knowledge of] Your judgments, O God,And [the spirit of] Your righteousness to the king’s son [to guide all his ways].

2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.

2 (a)May (b)he (C)judge Your people with righteousnessAnd (c)(D)Your afflicted with justice.

2 He will judge Your people with righteousnessand Your afflicted ones with justice.(C)

2 May he rule your people with right decisions and your oppressed ones with justice.

2 May he judge Your people with righteousness,And Your afflicted with justice.(A)

3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

3 (d)Let the mountains bring (e)(E)peace to the people,And the hills, in righteousness.

3 May the mountains bring prosperity(a) to the peopleand the hills, righteousness.(D)

3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people and the hills bring righteousness.

3 The mountains will bring peace and prosperity to the people,And the hills, in [the establishment of] righteousness.

4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

4 (f)May he (F)vindicate the (g)afflicted of the people,Save the children of the needyAnd crush the oppressor.

4 May he vindicate the afflicted among the people,help the poor,and crush the oppressor.(E)

4 May he defend the afflicted of the people and deliver the children of the poor, but crush the oppressor.

4 May he bring justice to the poor among the people,Save the children of the needyAnd crush the oppressor,

5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

5 (h)Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,And (i)as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

5 May he continue(b) while the sun enduresand as long as the moon, throughout all generations.(F)

5 May they fear you as long as the sun and moon shine from generation to generation.

5 Let them fear You [with awe-inspired reverence and worship You with obedience] while the sun endures,And as long as the moon [reflects light], throughout all generations.

6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

6 (j)May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,Like (I)showers that water the earth.

6 May he be like rain that falls on the cut grass,like spring showers that water the earth.(G)

6 May he be like the rain that descends on mown grass, like showers sprinkling on the ground.

6 May he come down like rain on the mown grass,Like showers that water the earth.

7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.

7 In his days (k)may the (J)righteous flourish,And (K)abundance of peace till the moon is no more.

7 May the righteous(c) flourish in his daysand prosperity(d) abounduntil the moon is no more.(H)

7 The righteous will flourish at the proper time and peace will prevail until the moon is no more.

7 In his days may the righteous flourish,And peace abound until the moon is no more.(B)

8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

8 May he also rule (L)from sea to seaAnd from the River to the ends of the earth.

8 May he rule from sea to seaand from the Euphratesto the ends of the earth.(I)

8 May he rule from sea to sea, from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.

9 (l)Let (M)the nomads of the desert (N)bow before him,And his enemies (O)lick the dust.

9 May desert tribes kneel before himand his enemies lick the dust.(J)

9 May the nomads bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust.

9 The nomads of the desert will bow before him,And his enemies will (a)lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

10 (m)Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (n)(Q)islands bring presents;The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer (o)gifts.

10 May the kings of Tarshishand the coasts and islands bring tribute,the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.(K)

10 May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring gifts, and may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer tribute.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring offerings;The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.

11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

11 (p)And let all (U)kings bow down before him,All (V)nations serve him.

11 Let all kings bow down to him,all nations serve him.(L)

11 May all kings bow down to him, and all nations serve him.

12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

12 For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,The (q)afflicted also, and him who has no helper.

12 For he will rescue the poor who cry outand the afflicted who have no helper.(M)

12 For he will deliver the needy when they cry out for help, and the poor when there is no deliverer.

12 For he will rescue the needy when he cries for help,The afflicted and abused also, and him who has no helper.

13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.

13 He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,And the (r)lives of the needy he will save.

13 He will have pity on the poor and helplessand save the lives of the poor.(N)

14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

15 So may he live, and may the (AA)gold of Sheba be given to him;And let (u)them pray for him continually;Let (v)them bless him all day long.

15 May he live long!May gold from Sheba be given to him.May prayer be offered for him continually,and may he be blessed all day long.(P)

15 May he live long and be given gold from Sheba, and may prayer be offered for him continuously, and may he be blessed every day.

15 So may he live, and may the gold of Sheba be given to him;And let them pray for him continually;Let them bless and praise him all day long.

16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;Its fruit will wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;And may those from the city flourish like (AC)vegetation of the earth.

16 May there be plenty of grain in the land;may it wave on the tops of the mountains.May its crops be like Lebanon.May people flourish in the citieslike the grass of the field.(Q)

16 May grain be abundant in the land all the way to the mountain tops; may its fruits flourish like the forests of Lebanon, and may the cities sprout like the grass of the earth.

16 There will be an abundance of grain in the soil on the top of the (b)mountains;Its fruit will wave like [the cedars of] Lebanon,And those of the city will flourish like grass of the earth.

17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

17 May his (AD)name endure forever;May his name (w)increase (x)(AE)as long as the sun shines;And let men (AF)bless themselves by him;(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.

17 May his name endure forever;as long as the sun shines,may his fame increase.May all nations be blessed by himand call him blessed.(R)

17 May his fame be eternal as long as the sun may his name endure, and may they be blessed through him, and may all nations call him blessed.

17 May his name endure forever;May his name continue as long as the sun;And let men bless themselves by him;Let all nations call him blessed.

18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.

18 (AH)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,Who alone (AI)works wonders.

18 May the Lord God, the God of Israel,who alone does wonders, be praised.(S)

19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
