The First Beast From The Sea

1 Then I saw, 'rising out of the sea, a wild Beast with ten horns' and seven heads. On its horns were ten diadems, and on its heads were blasphemous names.

1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the (a)seashore. Then I saw a (A)beast coming up out of the sea, having (B)ten horns and (C)seven heads, and on his horns were (D)ten diadems, and on his heads were (E)blasphemous names.

1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

1 And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea.(A) He(a) had 10 horns and seven heads. On his horns were 10 diadems,(B) and on his heads were blasphemous names.(b)(C)

1 I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns, seven heads, and ten royal crowns on its horns. On its heads were blasphemous names.

2 The Beast that I saw was like a leopard; but its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth like the mouth of a lion. The Dragon gave it his power and his throne, and wide dominion.

2 And the beast which I saw was (F)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of (G)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of (H)a lion. And the (I)dragon gave him his power and his (J)throne and great authority.

2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

2 The beast I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like a bear’s, and his mouth was like a lion’s mouth.(D) The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.

2 The beast that I saw was like a leopard. Its feet were like bear's feet, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth. The dragon gave it his power, his throne, and complete authority.

3 One of its heads seemed to me to have been mortally wounded, but its deadly wound had been healed. The whole earth followed the Beast, wondering;

3 I saw one of his heads as if it had been (b)slain, and his (K)fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth (L)was amazed and followed after the beast;

3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

3 One of his heads appeared to be fatally wounded,(c) but his fatal wound was healed. The whole earth was amazed and followed the beast.(d)(E)

3 One of the beast's heads looked like it had sustained a mortal wound, but its fatal wound was healed. Rapt with amazement, the whole world followed the beast.

4 and men worshiped the Dragon, because he had given his dominion to the Beast; while, as they worshiped the Beast, they said-- 'Who can compare with the Beast? and who can fight with it?'

4 they worshiped the (M)dragon because he (N)gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “(O)Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?”

4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

4 They worshiped the dragon(F) because he gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast?(G) Who is able to wage war against him?”

4 They worshipped the dragon because it had given authority to the beast. They also worshipped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight a war with it?"

5 The Beast was given 'a mouth that spoke proudly' and blasphemously, and it was empowered to work its will for forty-two months.

5 There was given to him a mouth (P)speaking (c)arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for (Q)forty-two months was given to him.

5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

5 A mouth was given to him to speak boasts and blasphemies.(H) He was also given authority to act(e)(f) for 42 months.(I)

5 The beast was allowed to speak arrogant and blasphemous things, and it was given authority for 42 months.

6 It opened its mouth only to blaspheme God, to blaspheme his Name and his Tabernacle-- those who dwell in his Tabernacle in Heaven.

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, (R)those who (d)dwell in heaven.

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

6 He began to speak(g) blasphemies against God: to blaspheme His name and His dwelling—those who dwell in heaven.

6 It uttered blasphemies against God, against his name, and against his residence, that is, against those who are living in heaven.

7 It had been permitted to fight with Christ's People and to conquer them, and it had received power over men of every tribe, and people, and language, and nation.

7 It was also given to him to (S)make war with the (e)saints and to overcome them, and authority over (T)every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.

7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

7 And he was permitted to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. He was also given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation.(J)

7 It was allowed to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. It was also given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation.

8 All who are living on earth will worship it--all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's Book of Life, the Lamb that has been sacrificed from the foundation of the world.

8 All who (U)dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone (V)whose name has not been (f)written (W)from the foundation of the world in the (X)book of life of (Y)the Lamb who has been slain.

8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

8 All those who live on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book(h) of life(K) of the Lamb who was slaughtered.(i)(L)

8 All those who had become settled down and at home, living on the earth, will worship it, everyone whose name had not been written in the Book of Life belonging to the lamb that had been slaughtered since the foundation of the world.

9 Let him who has ears hear.

9 (Z)If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

9 If anyone has an ear, he should listen:(M)

9 Let everyone listen:

10 'Whoever is destined for captivity goes into captivity.' Whoever shall kill with the sword must inevitably be killed with the sword. (Here there is need for endurance and faith on the part of Christ's People.)

10 (AA)If anyone (g)is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; (AB)if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is (AC)the (h)perseverance and the faith of the (i)saints.

10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

10 If anyone is destined for captivity, into captivity he goes.If anyone is to be killed(j) with a sword, with a sword he will be killed.(N)This demands the perseverance(k) and faith of the saints.(O)

10 If anyone is to be taken captive, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with a sword, with a sword he will be killed. Here is a call for endurance and faith of the saints:

The Second Beast From The Earth

11 Then I saw, rising out of the earth, another wild Beast. It had two horns like those of a lamb, and its voice was like a dragon's.

11 Then (AD)I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had (AE)two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a (AF)dragon.

11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; he had two horns like a lamb,(l)(P) but he sounded like a dragon.

11 I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it talked like a dragon.

12 It exercises all the authority of the first Beast under its very eyes; and it makes the earth and all who are living on it worship that first Beast, whose mortal wound was healed.

12 He (AG)exercises all the authority of the first beast (j)(AH)in his presence. And he makes (AI)the earth and those who dwell in it to (AJ)worship the first beast, whose (AK)fatal wound was healed.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

12 He exercises all the authority of the first beast on his behalf and compels the earth and those who live on it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed.

12 It uses all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and it makes the earth and those living on it worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed.

13 It performs great marvels, even causing fire to fall from the heavens to the earth, before men's eyes;

13 He (AL)performs great signs, so that he even makes (AM)fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men.

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

13 He also performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in front of people.

13 It performs spectacular signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people.

14 and in consequence of the marvels which it was allowed to perform under the eyes of the Beast, it is able to deceive all who are living on the earth. It bids those who live on the earth to make a statue in honour of the Beast, who, despite the wound from the sword, yet lived.

14 And he (AN)deceives (AO)those who dwell on the earth because of (AP)the signs which it was given him to perform (k)(AQ)in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who *had the (AR)wound of the sword and has come to life.

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

14 He deceives those who live on the earth(Q) because of the signs that he is permitted to perform on behalf of the beast,(R) telling those who live on the earth to make an image(m) of the beast who had the sword wound and yet lived.

14 It deceives those living on earth with the signs that it is allowed to do on behalf of the first beast, telling them to make an image for the beast who was wounded by a sword and yet lived.

15 It was permitted to breathe life into the image of the Beast, so that the image of the Beast might speak; and it was also permitted to cause all who refused to worship the image of the Beast to be put to death.

15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even (l)speak and cause (AS)as many as do not (AT)worship the image of the beast to be killed.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

15 He was permitted to give a spirit(n) to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could both speak and cause whoever would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

15 The second beast was allowed to impart life to the image of the first beast so that the image of the beast could talk and order the execution of those who would not worship the image of the beast.

16 High and low, rich and poor, freemen and slaves--it causes a brand to be put on the right hand or on the forehead of every one of them,

16 And he causes all, (AU)the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, (m)to be given a (AV)mark on their right hand or on their forehead,

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

16 And he requires everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark(o) on his right hand or on his forehead,(S)

16 The second beast forces all people important and unimportant, rich and poor, free and slaves to be marked on their right hands or on their foreheads,

17 so that no one is able to buy or sell, except those that bear this brand--either the name of the Beast or the number indicated by the letters of his name.

17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the (AW)mark, either (AX)the name of the beast or (AY)the number of his name.

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast’s name or the number of his name.

17 so that no one may buy or sell unless he has the mark, which is the beast's name or the number of its name.

18 (Here there is need for discernment.) Let him who has the ability compute the number of the Beast; for the number indicates a man's name. Its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

18 (AZ)Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that (BA)of a man; and his number is (n)six hundred and sixty-six.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

18 Here is wisdom:(p)(T) The one who has understanding must calculate(q) the number of the beast, because it is the number of a man.(r) His number is 666.(s)

18 In this case wisdom is needed: Let the person who has understanding calculate the total of the beast, since it is a human multitude, and the sum of the multitude is 600, 60 and six.
