1 Then one of the seven angels who were carrying the seven bowls came and spoke to me. "Come with me," he said, "and I will show you the doom of the great Harlot who sits upon many waters.

4 The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and was brilliantly attired with gold and jewels and pearls. She held in her hand a cup of gold, full of abominations, and she gave filthy indications of her fornication.

The Meaning Of The Woman And Of The Beast

7 Then the angel said to me, "Why are you so astonished? I will explain to you the secret meaning of the woman and of the seven-headed, ten-horned Wild Beast which carries her.

7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

7 And the angel said to me, “Why (f)do you wonder? I will tell you the (V)mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the (W)seven heads and the ten horns.

7 Then the angel said to me, “Why are you astonished? I will tell you the secret meaning of the woman and of the beast, with the seven heads and the 10 horns, that carries her.

7 "Why are you surprised?" The angel asked me. "I will tell you the secret of the woman and the beast with the seven heads and the ten horns that carries her.

8 "The Wild Beast which you have seen was, and is not, and yet is destined to re-ascend, before long, out of the bottomless pit and go his way into perdition. And the inhabitants of the earth will be filled with amazement--all whose names are not in the Book of Life, having been recorded there ever since the creation of the world--when they see the Wild Beast: because he was, and is not, and yet is to come.

8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

8 (X)The beast that you saw (Y)was, and is not, and is about to (Z)come up out of the (AA)abyss and (g)(AB)go to destruction. And (AC)those who dwell on the earth, (AD)whose name has not been written in the book of life (AE)from the foundation of the world, will (AF)wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.

8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up from the abyss(H) and go to destruction.(I) Those who live on the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world(J) will be astonished when they see the beast that was, and is not, and will be present again.(K)

8 The beast that you saw existed once, but is no longer, and is going to crawl out of the bottomless pit and then proceed to its destruction. Those living on earth, whose names were not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, will be surprised when they see the beast because it was, is no longer, and will come again.

9 Here is scope for the exercise of a mind that has wisdom! The seven heads are the seven hills on which the woman sits.

9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

9 (AG)Here is the mind which has wisdom. The (AH)seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits,

9 “Here is the mind with wisdom:(f)(L) The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated.

9 This calls for a mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is sitting. They are also seven kings.

10 And they are seven kings: five of them have fallen, and the one is still reigning. The seventh has not yet come, but when he comes he must continue for a short time.

10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

10 and they are seven (AI)kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while.

10 They are also seven kings:(g) Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he comes, he must remain for a little while.

10 Five of them have fallen, one is living, and the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must remain in power for a little while.

11 And the Wild Beast which once existed but does not now exist--he is an eighth king and yet is one of the seven and he goes his way into perdition.

11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

11 The beast which (AJ)was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he (AK)goes to destruction.

11 The beast that was and is not, is himself an eighth king, yet he belongs to the seven and is going to destruction.

11 The beast that was and is no longer is the eighth king, but it belongs with the seven kings and goes to its destruction.

12 "And the ten horns which you have seen are ten kings who have not yet come to the throne, but for a single hour they are to receive authority as kings along with the Wild Beast.

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

12 The (AL)ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast (AM)for one hour.

12 The 10 horns you saw are 10 kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they will receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.

12 The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom. They will receive authority to rule as kings with the beast for one hour.

13 They have one common policy, and they are to give their power and authority to the Wild Beast.

13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

13 These have (AN)one (h)purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast.

13 These have one purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast.

13 They have one purpose: to give their power and authority to the beast.

14 They will make war upon the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them; for He is Lord of lords and King of kings. And those who accompany Him--called, as they are, and chosen, and faithful--shall share in the victory."

14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

14 These will wage (AO)war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will (AP)overcome them, because He is (AQ)Lord of lords and (AR)King of kings, and (AS)those who are with Him are the (AT)called and chosen and faithful.”

14 These will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings.(M) Those with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

14 They will wage war against the lamb, but the lamb will conquer them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are called, chosen, and faithful are with him."

15 He also said to me, "The waters which you have seen, on which the Harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes, nations and languages.

15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

15 And he *said to me, “The (AU)waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are (AV)peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

15 He also said to me, “The waters you saw, where the prostitute was seated, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages.(N)

15 The angel also told me, "The bodies of water you saw, on which the prostitute is sitting, are nations, multitudes, nations, and languages.

16 And the ten horns that you have seen--and the Wild Beast--these will hate the Harlot, and they will cause her to be laid waste and will strip her bare. They will eat her flesh, and burn her up with fire.

16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

16 And the (AW)ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her (AX)desolate and (AY)naked, and will (AZ)eat her flesh and will (BA)burn her up with fire.

16 The 10 horns you saw, and the beast, will hate the prostitute.(O) They will make her desolate and naked, devour her flesh, and burn her up with fire.(P)

16 The ten horns and the beast you saw will hate the prostitute. They will leave her abandoned and naked. They will eat her flesh and burn her up with fire,

17 For God has put it into their hearts to carry out His purpose, and to carry out a common purpose and to give their kingdom to the Wild Beast until God's words have come to pass.

17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

17 For (BB)God has put it in their hearts to execute His (i)purpose (j)by (BC)having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the (BD)words of God will be fulfilled.

17 For God has put it into their hearts to carry out His plan by having one purpose(Q) and to give their kingdom(h) to the beast until God’s words are accomplished.

17 for God has placed within them a desire to carry out his purpose by uniting to give their kingdom to the beast until God's words are fulfilled.

18 And the woman whom you have seen is the great city which has kingly power over the kings of the earth."

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

18 The woman whom you saw is (BE)the great city, which (k)reigns over the kings of the earth.”

18 And the woman you saw is the great city that has an empire(i) over the kings of the earth.”

18 The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth."
